A while back, JerryRigEverything’s popular YouTuber Zack Nelson did his durability test on the newly launched Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 smartphone. Now the same YouTuber has appeared with Galaxy Z Flip 4 teardown video to present a detailed look at the phone’s internals.

We can see in the video that the smartphone suffered some injuries. The YouTuber started by peeling off the plastic bumpers all around the display then he slightly heated the device to easily peel off the display. It can be seen that the Flip 4 still has under-display metal support.

The display is quite easy to be broken so it needed care during removal to avoid pinching pixels and killing the screen. After removing the display, the YouTuber further pulled the back panels, again with the help of a little heat and a suction cup. This shows off the phone’s split battery configuration.

The device carries a smaller battery underneath the cover screen on the top partition and the lower half has a battery complete with a 15W wireless charging coil that also supports 4.5W reverse wireless charging. There is also a wired charging daughterboard and water ingress protection seals around the charging port, speaker, and microphone.

Moving ahead, the company has significantly improved the hinge design of Galaxy Z Flip 4. The YouTuber highlights the machined channels to guide both halves of the phone to fold evenly, unlike the Flip 3‘s complex gears in the hinge.

It’s impressive that the hinge does not exhibit any signs of physical wear or damage, including a loud pop when it is bent backward, even after passing the reverse bend test.

Furthermore, instead of the usual rectangular motor, the manufacturers have used a coin-shaped vibration motor in the lower half of the phone for haptics on the Flip 4. It also has plain old graphite pads between the display and motherboard to cool the processor. However, there are no vapor chambers or thermal paste.

Next, Zack has untangled the selfie camera which shows another interesting decision to glue the optics in place. It causes the camera useless if removed wrongly as the sensor separates from the lens stack when pulled. Meanwhile, the YouTuber didn’t remove the battery of the Flip 4 as he experienced the damage in a previous Samsung phone’s teardown.

Resultantly, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 passed the teardown with flying colors. It is manufactured impressively and the repair seems easy with the correct tools.
