Exclusive: Samsung One UI 4.1.1 will be based on Android 12L

Samsung One UI 5.0 is coming but before its public release, we will see One UI 4.1.1 custom software system. According to the company’s previous releases, the One UI 4.1.1 should be based on Android 12, however, that’s not true, the company is making a significant change this year.

Following the launch of Android 12 OS last year, Google introduced Android 12L for large screen devices, such as foldable and tablets. So far, none of the Samsung Galaxy foldable or tablets are running Android 12L, instead, they are working on Android 12-based One UI 4.

Meanwhile, Samsung’s next version of One UI 4 – One UI 4.1.1 is on its way and it will be pre-installed in the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 phones. According to our sources, unlike One UI 4.0 and One UI 4.1 which are based on Android 12, One UI 4.1.1 will be based on Android 12L.

If you don’t believe this source, let me remind you that Samsung itself, however, indirectly confirmed that Android 12L bases One UI 4.1.1. It provided the update for the One Hand Operation+ module whose changelog clearly mentions “Support for One UI 4.1.1 (Android 12L)”.

However, it doesn’t mean that One UI 4.1.1 will be only available for Galaxy foldable and tablets, it will also provide its functionalities to select Galaxy smartphones including – Galaxy S, Note, A, M, F, as well as XCover series, check out the eligible device list here.

Android 12L One UI 4.1.1 features

Well, Samsung hasn’t confirmed the changes and new features that are coming to One UI 4.1.1. Android 12L however, brings two major changes for large-screen devices including (1) a new two-column interface for the notification shade and (2) a new taskbar UI for improved multitasking.

Samsung on its One UI 4.1.1 might also bring the improved compatibility experience for Galaxy users that Google introduced with Android 12L, which improves scaling for apps that are not optimized for large-screen devices.
