Recently, Counterpoint Research released its latest report, which consists of the data of the smartphone market of Latin America during the second quarter of this year (Q2 2021). As per the report, Samsung was the leading smartphone retailer in Latin America in the second quarter, although its market share fell a year ago.

The report suggests that the exports of Latin American smartphones increased by 41.8% YoY in Q2 2021 but fell 6.5% compared to the previous quarter. The demand for smartphones in the region has grown slightly but volume growth has contributed to the continued shortage of chipset and production constraints.

The amount of most products has grown by doubling or tripling the number of YoY. Samsung is the worst hit by the crisis over its Vietnamese industry. Brazilian production also has supply problems. However, vendors and operators had accumulated something, reducing the decline in sales. But the sale was badly sold. Though, Samsung remains the leading region in the region, except Mexico and Peru.

Motorola acquired both volumes and shared them in Q2 2021. It has topped off one of the volumes lost by Samsung due to product limitations in the region. In Mexico, he became a market leader. Colombia was the only country to see a significant decline in the volume of Motorola affected by Xiaomi. It remains the second strongest player in the region.

Xiaomi saw its highest growth in the LATAM region. Its volume tripled YoY, aided by the decline of Huawei. Xiaomi is now the third-largest player in the region. Passing Samsung became the first brand in Peru, the first country for LATAM to make it a market leader. In Colombia, it remains a market leader, Samsung. But LATAM’s growth is likely to slow down due to increasing competition from other Chinese brands.

ZTE volume and sharing have increased. The brand enhances its integration with carriers. Benefits from product range limits at $100 and below with LG coming out of the mobile device market. LG still has some demand, but Samsung, Motorola, ZTE, and others are fast catching up on its volume.

Apple has declined in volume compared to the previous quarter. This is due to the typical season when its sales volume drops as it approaches a new launch. However, the best-selling American OEM model during Q2 2021 was the iPhone 11.

OPPO is the most successful among Chinese brands that entered the region last year, however. However, about 90% of its volume is concentrated in Mexico. The OPPO imports resources to LATAM, but still needs to make its mark there.
