On May 12, 2021, Samsung Display announced that it will lead the South Korean project to develop oxide thin-film transistor (TFT) technology for 1,000ppi OLED panels, reports TheElec.

Officials of Samsung Display said that their goal is to develop a new type of oxide TFT thin film transistor that will support electron movements ten times faster than existing products. According to the info, this technology is expected to be successfully developed in 2024.

Besides, Samsung Display is also committed to reducing TFT power consumption and manufacturing costs. However, the current display density of OLED screens used in smartphones can reach up to 643ppi, which is 4K screens equipped with Sony Xperia Pro and Xperia 1 III.

If Samsung gets success in its research and development of this technology, then it will make the screen of smart devices more delicate, while greatly improving the display effect of smartwatches, VR head-mounted displays, and other products.

As per the previous reports, Samsung Display and LG Display announced that they will provide flexible OLED panels for the Apple iPhone 13 that will launch later this year, of which Samsung will provide 110 million for Apple.
