Back in September 2020, Samsung introduced its second-gen folding smartphone called – Galaxy Z Fold 2. Moving forward, the company is developing new folding display technologies in different ways to make it more flexible against damages, reveals a new patent application.

According to PatentlyApple, the patent explains the company’s plan to reduce screen damage of foldable devices. In detail, the document includes a foldable display phone in which a rail placed between a display panel, and a support member, that can prevent damage to the display panel caused by an external impact.

However, it is early to speculate about the working method of this rail system in order to deliver further protection during an accidental drop. A thing to be noted, the patent doesn’t hint about the Galaxy Z Fold 3 while it clearly recommends its purpose to decrease the screen damages if the device drops down.

Just like every time, this is only a patent application that means it is only Samsung’s plan. And, it is also unclear whether it will become a reality or not. But, we can surely confirm that the South Korean tech giant is continuously working to develop new foldable technologies as well as more resilient folding devices.

Previously, it was said that the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3 may have the S Pen support and its display can be folded twice just like the Z shape. Besides, the display analyst Ross Young also claimed that Samsung will launch new foldable smartphones in June or July this year.

We’ll keep you posted on this matter.
