Samsung’s director visits research center to discuss next-generation 6G and AI communications technology

Samsung’s vision for 6G is to bring the next hyper-connected experience to every corner of life. To accelerate research for 6G, Samsung Research, the advanced R&D hub within Samsung SET Business, founded its Advanced Communications Research Center.

The 6G will help us create the future drivers for our telecommunications business as core technologies that will bring about great changes across the industry border in the next decade.

Recently, Samsung said that the company’s Vice-Chairman Lee Jae-yong held an executive meeting to discuss strategies in 6G and artificial intelligence (AI).

Samsung’s development in next-generation telecommunication research, server technology, and AI application to products at the office of Samsung Research, the company’s research unit, in Seoul. The company’s consumer electronics CEO HS Kim and mobile CEO DJ Koh as well as Samsung Research director Sebastian Seung took part in the meeting, Samsung said.

Lee said securing future technology was a matter of survival, according to Samsung. The Vice-Chairman asked those in attendance to read the changes happening around them to control the future, the company said.

On Monday, the Vice-Chairman visited the company’s Pyeongtaek chip plant. On Tuesday, he visited the company’s network equipment production line at Suwon as well as its Global Technology Center.

Last year, Samsung also releases the white paper entitled “The Next Hyper-Connected Experience for All.” outlining the company’s vision for the next generation communication system, namely 6G.

These include the use of the terahertz (THz) frequency band, novel antenna technologies to enhance the coverage of high-frequency band signals, the evolution of network topology, spectrum sharing to increase the efficiency of frequency utilization, and the use of AI in wireless communications.
