Samsung Galaxy S25: Here’s what you need to know

Samsung will launch the Galaxy S25 series in early 2025. The company’s compact flagship is quite famous among consumers globally. The vanilla variant of the Galaxy S line brings pro-grade specs at a quite smaller size for the consumers.

The company is expected to produce 37.4 million units of the Galaxy S25 series within 2025. Among the total shipments, 14.8 million units of Galaxy S25 will be produced alone, solidifying the significance of the device.

The next compact Samsung phone will be equipped with a bright vibrant display, Qualcomm’s most powerful chipset, upgraded Galaxy AI features, enhanced camera capabilities, a tweaked frame with an iPhone-like design, and plenty more.

Here’s everything you should know about this flagship:

Design

  • Signature Galaxy design, Aluminium frame

Samsung’s S25 could bring a visual treat with some exciting design tweaks. Rounded corners are on the cards for all three models, with minimal curvature on the S25 Ultra.

The phone’s design will feature a softer, more modern edge. With the S25, you will have a feel of having S25 Ultra-like performance and features in a slim and lightweight device.

Display

  • 6.2-inch OLED with M13+ material set

The base Galaxy S25 model might feature a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. The panel will ensure vivid colors and sharp images, ideal for uninterrupted usage.

There’s buzz that the Korean tech giant may install the anti-reflective screen across the Galaxy S25 series, which initially debuted in the Galaxy S24 Ultra, earlier this year.

Processor

  • Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy

Samsung is going all Snapdragon with the Galaxy S25 series. Lower yield issues led the company to cancel its plans to use Exynos 2500 in the Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus in most regions.

The Galaxy S25 series is expected to use Snapdragon 8 Elite internationally. The standard variant features two high-performance Oryon cores at 4.32GHz and six performance cores at 3.53GHz.

Snapdragon 8 Elite is manufactured on a 3nm process by TSMC. The newer fabrication tech offers better power efficiency, and improved performance without an increase in power consumption.

The new SoC has a 45% boost in CPU performance and a 40% uplift in GPU performance compared to last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 that power the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The Adreno 830 GPU is a notable upgrade, and the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) is said to be 45% faster, enhancing on-device AI processing for better machine learning tasks.

RAM & Storage

  • The base variant with 12GB RAM and 256GB memory

Samsung is upgrading a much-needed aspect with the next year’s flagships. There will be no 8GB RAM or 128GB memory variant in the Galaxy S25 series, even not in the cheapest.

The Galaxy S25 storage options are rumored to include 12GB RAM with 256GB and 512GB of internal storage and the same configuration could be followed by the S25 Plus.

Battery & Charging

  • 4400mAh battery and 25W charging

You might see a 4000mAh battery in the regular model and a 5000mAh in the Ultra. Charging speeds could remain at 45W for the Ultra, but there’s no hope for more than 25W on the base.

Software and Software Support

  • Android 15-based One UI 7.1 and 7 years of support

Samsung will introduce the Galaxy S25 series with Android 15-based One UI 7.1. The new software will also be equipped with better and more powerful Galaxy AI features, powered by GenAI.

Expect seven years of Android upgrades and regular security update support. It will ensure buyers continue to use their devices for a decent period without missing out on software innovations.

Mark your calendars for around January 22, 2025, if the leaks are right. Samsung may hold the Galaxy Unpacked in San Francisco, United States. A recently leaked teaser also claimed that the launch could take place on January 22.
