Samsung confirms Location data fix for its AirDrop feature

Samsung has made Quick Share capable of sharing images, videos, and files with iPhone users through Apple AirDrop. We thought the feature’s functionality was perfect until we managed to discover a glitch that does not impact everybody out there.

Metadata exists with every image, video, or file, and it’s crucial, but only if you care. It’s simply a short description of visuals and graphics backed by date and time, file name, size, location, resolution, aperture, and other aspects, such as exposure.

Smartphone camera apps bring a feature that slaps location data on the image and videos. When enabled, it leverages the phone’s GPS to determine the current location (or approximate) and link it to the output that stays paired until altered manually.

Transferring files from Samsung Quick Share to AirDrop is lacking location data. It retains most of the details, but a bug is causing the location information to be left behind while sharing from a Samsung device to Apple devices.

Well, Samsung’s team was fast enough to acknowledge the glitch. The moderator confirmed that location data is being dropped when sharing files with Apple devices. The team is aware of the problem and is working to address it soon.

As revealed by the moderator, the root cause is being investigated for resolution. The next Galaxy update will likely fix the location data problem. Files shared from Samsung to Apple devices will begin carrying location information as well.
