Nvidia CEO’s personal letter to Samsung Boss brings big news on AI

Nvidia formally informed Samsung about the utilization of HBM3E in the GB300, its latest AI accelerator. A new report sheds light on a recent development of the sharing of a letter between the top leadership of Nvidia and Samsung.

News1 (via Jukanlosreve) reports that Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s team has sent a letter to Samsung Boss Jay Y Lee’s office to brief him about the use of Samsung’s HBM3E memory chip in its GB300 AI accelerators.

The letter confirms that Samsung HBM is set to power the future of Nvidia’s AI systems. It also ends a long-standing delay, which kept the HBM3E stuck in the supply chain, signaling a seismic shift in the global HBM market.

Samsung and Nvidia are reportedly in the final stages of coordination regarding specific supply volume, price, and schedule. The Korean tech giant is expected to bolster its presence in the rapidly growing AI memory chip market.

Well, Samsung’s not going to make much money despite the HBM3E supply to Nvidia. The industry is heading towards the adoption of HBM4, and that said, Samsung is unlikely to secure a large volume of HBM3E chip supply.

Back in March 2024, Nvidia’s CEO left a signature reading “Jensen Approved” on Samsung’s 12-stack HBM3E at a conference in the US. Despite entering the supply chain, Samsung’s HBM faced challenges during evaluation.
