Samsung to suspend Galaxy Store access for maintenance

Samsung announced Galaxy Store will undergo maintenance for a few hours. During the maintenance, access to Store and Galaxy Themes will be barred. It’s a scheduled program to keep the Store platform seamlessly functional.
According to the notice posted, Samsung will halt Galaxy Store operations on June 16 from 01:00 to 04:00 GMT. During this time, Galaxy users won’t be able to install and update apps from the Galaxy Store or access Galaxy Themes.
It’s going to be a massive 3-hour downtime for one of Samsung’s most important apps. Galaxy Themes will also be down, but it’s not as widely used as Galaxy Store.
The maintenance is scheduled to last 3 hours, but the revert time depends on the progress. If the maintenance lasts even longer than scheduled, the access will be kept halted, accordingly.
Thanks for the tip, Aptivi!
Samsung also clarified that getting redirected to Galaxy Store from “any medium” would not be allowed, as the platform’s server will be under maintenance, barring user access.
Galaxy Store available across devices will be unavailable during the given time. The Store app available on non-Samsung devices would also be inaccessible.
Here’s more on Galaxy Store maintenance:
- During scheduled system maintenance,
- The Galaxy Store and Galaxy Themes server, and all access to the Galaxy Store server, are unavailable.
- During the system maintenance work on the Galaxy Store service,
- The Galaxy Store app access (including web access) will not be possible during this period.
- Emergency/security updates provided by Samsung Galaxy devices have been temporarily suspended.
- Access is not possible if you are coming directly from the other apps to the Galaxy Store.
- Galaxy Store that are accessible from manufacturers other than Samsung are also not available, and Downloading and Updating Galaxy Store apps or content is stopped.
- Access to the Galaxy Store or use of the Galaxy Store/Galaxy Themes servers has been temporarily suspended.
Samsung has yet to confirm whether the maintenance will affect only Korean users or worldwide. However, pre-conveying the downtime message to Galaxy users is a nice move.

One UI 8 makes Samsung’s Secure Folder truly private

One UI’s Secure Folder is a brilliant idea that landed on Pixel phones as Private Space. This Samsung feature had a privacy flaw, which One UI 8 quietly addresses.
Galaxy users can secure their private files under Secure Folder’s dedicated storage, which can’t be accessed without the necessary credentials. However, some system components were allowed to offer access to that stuff with physical access to the device.
Samsung’s new One UI 8 update makes the Secure Folder truly private.
The major update reclassifies the Secure Folder feature as a “private” profile. It changes “work profile” like nature of the service, ultimately blocking access to secured files (photos, videos, audios, and so on) using Android systems like Photo Picker.
It brings Secure Folder a step closer to Google’s Private Space architecture. All in all, it’s a beneficial yet necessary shift, ensuring data privacy and secrecy. Now, the stuff you’re sending in Secure Folder will remain completely secure all the way.
Secure Folder adopting the Private Space approach signals Android’s system-level tools to treat it as a protected space. Well, it will only work when you hide the Secure Folder; just closing the app won’t trigger the ultimate privacy boost.

Samsung has deployed a crucial security improvement on One UI 8. Since there’s still room for improvement, the current move is a welcome one. Hopefully, Secure Folder will be that advanced to function like it’s intended to.
Stable One UI 8 is available on Samsung’s latest foldables, while the Beta version is on the Galaxy S25 series. Samsung is expected to start official update’s rollout in the third quarter of the year for many flagship smartphones.

Samsung confirms LockStar widget bug fix for Galaxy devices

Samsung is working on a new update to fix some widget-related issues in the LockStar Good Lock module. Some Galaxy users have reported bugs and missing features, and Samsung has now responded.
The big issue that users are facing in the Samsung LockStar app is lock screen widgets. Users have shared that when they set a widget on the lock screen using LockStar, it disappears after they restart their phone.
Because of this issue, they have to go back to the settings and set it up again every time. This has been frustrating for several users who use LockStar to customize their lock screen.
A Samsung community moderator confirmed the widget problem and said there is a bug where widget settings in LockStar are not saved after restarting the phone. For that, Samsung has promised to fix this in a future update to the LockStar app.
Aside from this, users also reported the missing gesture. Before, users could open some apps by swiping to the bottom corner of the screen. That gesture has now been removed.
Notably, Samsung replaced it with a long press on the right button. But many users already use that button for other features. Because of this, they are asking Samsung to bring the old gesture back.
However, Samsung has not said anything yet about bringing back the swipe gesture. Many users are hoping that Samsung will give more options in future updates to make LockStar easier and more flexible to use.
Stay tuned for the next update, which should make things better on Samsung LockStar.

Samsung phones about to get new Google Messages with cleaner UI

Samsung phone users may soon receive a small but useful update in the Google Messages app. Google is working to separate the Camera and Gallery options in the Messages app to make the interface more organized.
In the latest beta version of the app, Google has made a change that separates the Camera and Gallery buttons of Google Messages. This could make the app look better and easier to use.
Earlier, when you tapped the Plus icon while chatting, you saw one option, Gallery. This would open a screen where you could take a photo with the camera and also see your recent pictures below. It was handy but sometimes confusing if you only wanted to use the camera or pick a photo.
Now, in the beta version, Google has added two separate buttons, one for Camera and one for Gallery. If you tap the Gallery button, you will only see photos and videos already on your phone. If you tap the Camera button, it opens the camera view, just like before, but also shows your recent photos below it for quick access.

This update is currently under development in the beta version of Google Messages, and it’s not yet available to everyone. However, Google hasn’t confirmed when it will be available for everyone. But if it works well, it could be rolled out to all users, including those on Samsung phones.
Even though this is a small update, it helps make the app easier to use and saves time when sharing photos or videos in chats. Samsung users who use Google Messages may soon enjoy a cleaner and simpler messaging experience. Stay tuned for more information.

Along with the new support for One UI 8, both modules also bring some small design changes and bug fixes. This means they don’t just work on newer phones, but also they now look and feel better too.
The fresh update for the Samsung QuickStar app arrives with version 9.0.00.01. This version supports phones running One UI 8. It means that users can now enjoy the QuickStar feature on the One UI 8 software smoothly.
QuickStar is a module that lets you customize the quick panel. With QuickStar, you can change the layout, colors, icons, and even hide certain items from the panel. The new update also fixes some bugs, so the app should run more smoothly on the new software.

Samsung Software Update app’s latest update brings new visually rich icon

Samsung has just released a new update for its Software Update app, which brings a new app icon. The latest update comes with version 4.4.08 for Galaxy devices.
The Software Update app is used to install the latest firmware and system updates on Galaxy phones and tablets. With this new update, Samsung has made the app better with a new look.
The fresh update of the Samsung Software update app arrives with a new app icon. The old icon had a circular arrow inside a white square, which looked more like a refresh symbol. Now, the new icon shows a downward arrow inside a white box, with a progress bar below it.
This new design clearly shows that the app is meant for downloading and installing updates. It has a darker blue background, which gives it a cleaner and more modern look. It helps users easily recognize what the app is used for just by looking at it.
Besides the new icon, Samsung has also made some minor changes to the app. The update fixes minor bugs and improves the app’s performance. Through this, the app should now run more smoothly and feel more stable.
If you have a Galaxy device, you can download the update by opening the Galaxy Store, tapping on the Menu button, and then selecting Updates. Install the update now to enjoy a new look. This small but useful update helps improve the overall experience of software updates on Samsung Galaxy devices.
