Samsung developing Exynos 1680 chipset for Galaxy A57, first details leak

Samsung Galaxy A56 5G

Samsung has another mid-range Exynos SoC in the pipeline, set to debut next year. Evidence suggests that Samsung is developing the Exynos 1680 chipset that will power the Galaxy A57 mid-range smartphone.

GalaxyClub findings suggest that Samsung is working on the Exynos 1680 chip with model number S5E8865 and codename Terra for the Galaxy A57. These are only initial details and users can expect more to popup as the development progresses.

This Exynos solution would indeed be used in 2026’s top-of-the-line Galaxy A model. It will succeed the Galaxy A56’s Exynos 1580. From what we can expect, the Exynos 1680 would pack XClipse 550 GPU, crafted in collaboration with AMD.

This development comes in light at the time when Samsung has just released the Galaxy A56. We can expect the Galaxy A57 to be announced in the second quarter of 2026, after the Galaxy S26 series hits the market.

Beyond performance, Samsung’s next mid-range Exynos chip would also have advanced AI capabilities. The company has gradually deployed some AI features on non-flagship Galaxy models, with more likely in the future.

Samsung struggles with flagship Exynos processors, the recent incident with the Galaxy S25’s Exynos 2500. Now this chip is set to be used in the Galaxy Z Flip 7, and a recent benchmark leak revealed disappointing performance.

Experiment in flagships could hit hard from both financial and reputation fronts. Gradual improvements in the mid-range segment are a nice resort for research and development, as we’ve noted decent experiences in A phones.

Samsung has made Exynos 1580 using its 3rd-gen 4nm EUV FinFET process. It has a tri-cluster, 8-core CPU with ARMv9 cores, including a 1x Cortex-A720 (prime core) at 2.9 GHz, 3x Cortex-A720 at 2.6 GHz, and 4x Cortex-A520 at 1.95 GHz.

The silicon is packed with an Xclipse 540 GPU, based on AMD’s RDNA 3 architecture. It also features two Work Group Processors (WGPs), increased GL2 cache, and double the FMA/texture unit processing.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7

Samsung just introduced the new foldable smartphones – Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Galaxy Z Flip7 FE, at the Galaxy Unpacked event. All three foldable phones will get seven years of Android updates and security patches.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7, Flip7 FE, and Fold 7 ship with Android 16 and One UI 8.0 out of the box. Notably, these are the first phones to come preloaded with Android 16. Each device will receive seven years of Android OS upgrades and security updates, which ensures support until 2032 with Android 23.

This means that these Galaxy foldable phones will stay fresh for a long time. Even the more affordable Galaxy Z Flip7 FE will get the same long-term software support as Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7.

One UI 8 adds smart features powered by Galaxy AI. It includes Photo Assist for easily editing pictures by suggesting what to remove, and Audio Eraser can clean up background noise in recordings. You can read a web article on one side while seeing a summary on the other using Browsing Assist on a Fold smartphone.

Seven years of update support make these smartphones an excellent long-term investment. Pre-orders are now open, and the phones will be available starting July 25.

Samsung Galaxy S25 FE looks more like S24 FE than S25 in live images; supports Qi2 charging

Samsung Galaxy S25 FE Live Image

Samsung Galaxy S25 FE just popped up in some live images on the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) site, and it’s giving us a good look at what this phone’s all about. It’s the first time we’re seeing live shots after the previous render leak.

The front has a nice, clean display with a punch-hole camera and rounded corners, which feels pretty standard but sleek. Flip it over, and you’ve got three cameras on the back, each with a silver ring around it (via TheTechOutlook).

The phone in the images is a cool grey color, so that’s definitely one of the options you’ll be able to pick. You can check out the front and back in the live images, and honestly, it looks a lot more like the Galaxy S24 FE than the Galaxy S25.

The WPC listing also spills some details about charging. Similar to the Galaxy S25 series, the upcoming S25 FE supports Qi2 Ready (version 2.1.0). That said, it is ready for Qi2 wireless charging, but it doesn’t feature magnets inside.

Samsung would offer Qi2-compatible cases for the Galaxy S25 FE. The case will have magnets to unlock faster and reliable wireless charging. It’s a major upgrade over the S24 FE that practically enhances the user experience.

The Galaxy S25 FE may launch around October this year. It will be powered by an Exynos 2400 processor with a 10-core CPU and an Xclipse GPU. The rigid OLED is also being replaced with flagship-grade flexible OLED screens.

Out of the box, the device will run Android 16-based One UI 8. While the design feels like an S24 FE replica, the thickness is being reduced. It would be released as the company’s thinnest Fan Edition smartphone yet.

Check how many battery charges your Samsung phones can survive (EU Data)

Samsung Phones Battery Health Charge Cycles

Smartphone batteries don’t last forever, but how long can yours keep going? The European Union’s new energy label program gives us clear answers. It rates devices on power efficiency, durability, and battery charge cycles. Let’s dive into the supported battery charge cycles for a range of Samsung Galaxy phones, as per EU data.

The EU’s energy labels show how many charge cycles a phone’s battery can handle before it starts to degrade. A charge cycle is one full charge, from 0% to 100%, with cycles could happen in one go or over multiple partial charges, and Samsung phones stand out in the EU data.

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series phones show battery health and cycle count data. The new stats are inspired by Apple iPhones, which have shown such data for years. Meanwhile, Samsung’s battery stats are not widely available on Galaxy devices.

Here’s how many charges your Galaxy device could survive:

2,000 charge cycles:

  • Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, S25 Ultra, S25 Edge
  • Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 FE (S25 Plus and Ultra aren’t listed yet)
  • Galaxy A56, Galaxy A36
  • Galaxy XCover7, XCover7 Pro
  • Galaxy Tab Active5, Tab Active5 Pro
  • Galaxy Tab S10 Plus, Tab S10 Ultra, Tab S10 FE, Tab S10 FE Plus

Samsung flagships like the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, S25 Ultra, and S25 Edge are rated for 2,000 charge cycles. Other Samsung models also shine:

  • The Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy A56, A36, XCover7, XCover7 Pro, and Tab S10 series (including Plus, Ultra, FE, and FE Plus) all boast 2,000 charge cycles.

This means they can maintain at least 80% of their original battery capacity after 2,000 full charges. That’s impressive compared to most devices, which typically fall between 1,000 and 1,400 cycles.

1,200 charge cycles:

The Galaxy A26 and A16 are rated for 1,200 cycles, still above the average for many brands.

Apple iPhone 17e may go head-to-head with Samsung Galaxy S25 FE in 2026

iPhone 16E

A new report claims that Apple will launch the iPhone 17e next year. It will follow up on the main models, which are set to drop this September. The affordable iPhone 17e will compete with Samsung’s Galaxy S25 FE.

Korea’s TheElec reports that the Apple iPhone 17e may launch in Spring 2026. It’s a calendar timeline between March and May in certain countries. Samsung’s Galaxy S25 FE will launch later this year, and rival Apple’s iPhone 17e.

There’s a major hardware difference expected in these two phones.

Samsung is slated to use premium flexible OLED in the Galaxy S25 FE. The company’s Display arm is gearing up to start mass-producing OLED panels for this Fan Edition product.

On the other hand, Apple will keep recycling aged OLED panels initially manufactured for the iPhone 14 in the iPhone 17e next year, after doing it once for the iPhone 16e this year.

Samsung Display will supply OLED screens for the iPhone 17e next year. LG Display and China’s BOE will also enjoy Apple orders for display panels for its next affordable iPhone.

The report states that Apple will launch a new iPhone “e” model every year after the 2026 release. The company will retain an affordable model to compete with its biggest rival, Samsung, in terms of worldwide volumes shipped.

The iPhone maker aims to maintain annual iPhone shipments of 220 million to 230 million units. Among them, the iPhone “e” models could have a capping of 20 million to avoid sales harm to the main models that are Apple’s cash cow.
