Just like Google’s system, Samsung’s earthquake alert can warn people just before an earthquake hits their area. It shows a full-screen message and plays a loud sound to alert you quickly. But Samsung goes a bit further by adding more helpful features.

Samsung’s earthquake alert feature lets users preview how the alert will look and sound, which can help people know what to expect. It also keeps a history of past alerts. Users can even choose how and when they want to get alerts based on the magnitude of the earthquake and the time of day.

Moreover, it can show nearby emergency shelters. The alert can also display your emergency contacts and medical info, which can be important for first responders during an emergency.

Google’s earthquake warning system is strong and works on many Android phones, but it doesn’t have all these extra features. It’s not clear why Samsung made its own version, but it might be for areas where Google’s service doesn’t work.

Still, Samsung’s feature looks like a great step forward. With features like emergency info, shelter locations, and preview options, it gives users more control and support during earthquakes. It would be great if Google added some of these tools to its version.

For now, Samsung’s One UI 8 earthquake warning system is showing how safety alerts can be even smarter. It is expected that Samsung will soon make this feature available.

One standout One UI 8 feature in testing is HDR screenshots support. Found in the Internal Beta build ZYF7, this feature lets users capture HDR content with vibrant details. It’s not yet in the Public Beta, but it shows promise for future releases.

Leaker Ice Universe tested this One UI 8 screenshots upgrade on an S25 Ultra, capturing an HDR photo from social media. The screenshot retained the original image’s HDR effect, showcasing the feature’s potential to enhance visual quality.

Currently, HDR screenshot support is exclusive to the ZYF7 closed beta and absent from the One UI 8 Beta 2 (ZYF3), which is available for Beta participants. Samsung may include it in the next open beta or the stable release expected soon.

Android 16 enables true HDR screenshots by saving them as PNG files with embedded gain maps. These allow screenshots to display HDR highlights on compatible Android 16 devices while appearing as standard SDR on others.

Recently, a Galaxy S22 Plus and Z Fold 5 benchmarked on Geekbench (via Alfaturk), with a listing reveals both phones were running One UI 8. Last month, Samsung’s firmware server listed Android 16 firmware for the S22 Ultra.

Notably, the Galaxy S22 Plus scored 1466 and 3000 points in Geekbench’s single-core and multi-core tests. On the flip side, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 managed to secure 1995 and 5055 points in the same Geekbench testing metrics.

Samsung is expected to open One UI 8 Beta for the Galaxy S22 series and Z Fold5. However, these devices are not in priority, also the Beta Program’s launch isn’t certain. The company may also bring them the official version directly.

In late May, Samsung published Beta Program notice boards for the S22 and S23 series. It’s an indication of Beta access for these flagships. It would take time as Samsung is currently busy in prep for the new products launching in July.

One UI 8 is going to be the last and second-to-last OS upgrade for the Galaxy S22 series and Z Fold5/Flip5, respectively. The Galaxy S21 series and Z Fold/Flip 3 have received One UI 7 as their last major upgrade earlier.

Samsung has confirmed that the stable One UI 8 update will debut on its “newest foldables”—the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7—expected to launch this summer. These foldables will be the first to ship with One UI 8 and Android 16 out of the box, likely in late July 2025.

For other Galaxy devices, the stable One UI 8 rollout is likely to follow shortly after the foldables’ launch. The Galaxy S25 series, which is already in the beta testing program, could see the stable update as early as August, with the S24, S23, and other flagships like the Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 close behind.
