A One UI 7.0 settings icon is different in Galaxy S25 from other devices

Published

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and S24 Ultra side by side

One UI 7.0 comes with a redesigned icon consisting of a vibrant and subtle color tone, but there’s one specific Settings icon, which is different in Galaxy S25 series and the newly upgraded Samsung devices.

The Galaxy S25 series launched as the first One UI 7.0 flagship, featuring the latest AI innovations and access out of the box. On the other hand, previous flagships including the Galaxy S24 and S23 series had to wait for April to get this update onboard.

Both devices along with several others have completed this upgrade and I want to point out a minor difference between the Galaxy S25 and its siblings loaded with One UI 7.0.

I’ve recently compared the two firmwares and found that the settings battery icon in the Galaxy S25 is different from the S24 and S23 series. Interestingly, devices receiving this OS update via OTA shares the same icons pack but the same but for one exception.

Take a look at the screenshot below for more clarification.

As you can see, the icon on the left is plain and there are no extra details, but the right one is different. So, does it reflect any major feature difference between the S25 series and S24/S23 devices? Absolutely not, these phones share the same battery settings and features.

Instead, there’s a possibility that this could be a manual flaw, or Samsung may want to keep this battery settings menu icon different in the Galaxy S25 series compared to other One UI 7.0 smartphones.

We’re also not ruling out a chance of Samsung reflecting on this flaw and seed improvement with a software update. However, it’s not a major issue and it could be addressed with ease. We also hope that Samsung might take a note of this article and make things even.

Ups and downs in One UI 7.0 rollout reveals user expectations for a fast and efficient software release

One UI 7.0

One UI 7.0 comes with new features and UI upgrades for a smooth user experience, but its rollout has raised many questions while enlightening massive user interest in a fast and efficient OS update release, which is still lacking.

There are a few aspects that we came across during the One UI 7.0 saga. From announcement to stable OTA distribution, this update has created excitement for the new addition and disappointment due to the mysterious delay.

Let’s start with the beta testing in December. This was an unusual timeline to open a One UI beta program, at least compared to the past few years.

Users anticipated this update after the Android 15 release in early Q4 2024, but the wait stretched through December. Once started, the beta remained limited to the Galaxy S24 series for the next four months. This program should have ended in February, but with every beta, the wait for a stable release only expanded.

Through this time, we’ve received plenty of questions about the rollout and roadmap for older devices. The majority of which included harsh criticism of the update policy and lengthy upgrade promises, specifically for flagship phones. From what we’ve observed, these questions are valid on the face of anonymity.

From January to mid-March, eligible Galaxy phone users were unaware of a One UI 7.0 rollout roadmap. On the other hand, the Galaxy S24 completed its inaugural launch year in January 2025, while its users have been waiting for the first major OTA release. The delay also raised concerns about S24’s 7 generations of OS upgrades.

The level of awareness in the Samsung community is pretty commendable, which continues to grow. The phone maker could take these questions as feedback and provide its customers with a fast and efficient rollout for One UI 8.0, something that we missed with One UI 7.0.

Samsung OLED TV NVIDIA G-SYNC

Samsung has announced that its 2025 OLED TV lineup will now support NVIDIA G-SYNC to make gaming smoother and more responsive than ever before. This means gamers can enjoy better picture quality with less screen tearing and stuttering during fast-paced gameplay.

G-SYNC works by synchronizing the TV’s refresh rate with the graphics card’s frame rate. When combined with Samsung’s Motion Xcelerator technology, which supports up to a 165Hz refresh rate, gamers get very smooth and clear visuals, even during fast-paced scenes.

In addition to G-SYNC, the new Samsung TV lineup also supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. It offers great performance across more gaming devices. The TVs include Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), which helps reduce lag so players can react quickly.

The Samsung Gaming Hub makes it easy to access cloud and console games. It includes Xbox and NVIDIA GeForce NOW.

A new AI Auto Game Mode is also included. This feature uses AI to analyze the game in real time and automatically adjust the picture and sound for the best experience. Players can also use the Game Bar, a pop-up menu that lets them quickly change settings without leaving the game.

NVIDIA G-SYNC feature will first be available on Samsung’s top model TV lineup, the S95F, and will later be added to more 2025 OLED models.

Will you ditch One UI 7 for One UI 8 Beta such early?

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra

One UI 8 is the new talk of the town, with reports suggesting a Beta Program launch within a month. One UI 7 has just landed, and talks of One UI 8 Beta have started, rendering the former a short-term software iteration.

Samsung introduced One UI 7 earlier this year with the Galaxy S25 series. Just two months before debuting the official version, the company started the Beta Program in late December, bringing early access to owners of the S24 series.

If we look at Samsung’s software rollout strategy, excluding the One UI 7, the One UI 8 Beta should have been introduced around August, and the Stable release should take place later this year, specifically, in the fourth quarter.

Samsung officially confirmed Android 16 is coming to Galaxy devices this Summer. Recent developments confirm that the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7 will come pre-installed with Android 16-based One UI 8 operating system.

One UI in 2025

  • One UI 7
    • Beta Program – December (2024)
    • Official Launch – February 2025
    • First Rollout – April 2025
  • One UI 8
    • Beta Program – Late Q2, 2025
    • Official Launch – Summer 2025
    • First Rollout – Likely in late Q3, 2025

One UI 7 is a major upgrade, and leaks point to One UI 8 bringing finishing touches to the advancements adopted in Samsung’s Android 15 update. That said, the One UI 8 will be capped at refining the user interface and features.

Samsung One UI 7

The One UI 7 is the most delayed update, and it could be the shortest-lived version too. A portion of power users eagerly await every new update to explore the changes and help the developers shape the software through feedback.

Galaxy S24 users have upgraded to One UI 7 through the Beta Program in early December. Now with One UI 8 Beta coming early, they would have the opportunity to jump to another new OS within a gap of just 6 months (approx).

One UI 7 update has a lot to explore, and Samsung is bringing new features with incremental updates. Despite the fact, One UI 8 Beta will open new ways for users to dive deeper in Samsung’s software advancements this Summer.

One UI 8 will be a bittersweet goodbye for Galaxy S22 users

Published

Samsung

Once your Galaxy S22 gets One UI 8, that’s it for major Android OS upgrades. No Android 17 or beyond. The term “bittersweet goodbye” fits perfectly for Galaxy S22 users facing the end of major updates with Android 16.

When Samsung’s One UI 8 lands, you’ll get a final batch of new features and improvements tied to Android 16. It’s the end of a four-year journey that started with Android 12, followed by security updates through 2027.

Samsung released the Galaxy S22 series with Android 12 and One UI 4.1 out of the box. At the time, the company committed to providing four major Android OS upgrades for its flagship phones. Here’s what that looks like for the S22 lineup:

  • Android 12 (One UI 4.1) – The starting point in 2022.
  • Android 13 (One UI 5) – The first major upgrade.
  • Android 14 (One UI 6) – The second major upgrade.
  • Android 15 (One UI 7) – The third major upgrade, likely rolling out around now or soon, depending on your region.
  • Android 16 (One UI 8) – The fourth and final major upgrade, expected sometime in 2026.

Samsung Galaxy S22 One UI 6.1.1 update Europe

Since the S22 series debuted in February 2022, you can expect security patches to keep coming until at least February 2027. These updates won’t bring new features, but they’ll help protect your device from vulnerabilities.

Samsung is bringing One UI 8 early this year, with the Beta Program likely within a month. The Galaxy S22 series might not join the Beta Program and jump straight to the Android 16-based One UI 8 firmware by the end of the year.

Galaxy S21 Series

As One UI 7 (Android 15) is already out, the Galaxy S21 series has received its final major upgrade, making it ineligible for One UI 8 (Android 16).

Launched in January 2021 with Android 11, the S21 series originally fell under Samsung’s three-year update policy. However, in 2022, Samsung extended that to four major upgrades for select devices, including the S21 lineup.

If Samsung cares about its fans, these phones should get One UI 8
