Samsung is finally doing something about One UI 7.0 we’ve wanted for months

Samsung has shifted gear for One UI 7.0 rollout with an expansion for previously released smartphones, something that we wanted to see for months.
One UI 7.0 is a landmark software with a new UI design, better animations, smoother interactions and immersive personalizations features. These upgrades make the software compelling for previous generation of devices and also the most hyped One UI version released to date.
However, this anticipation later becomes a burden for users tagged with disappointment. To understand this scenario, we have to dive into a brief history lesson.
Samsung started the One UI 7.0 beta program in December, three months later than One UI 6.0 beta (in August 2023), for the Galaxy S24 series.
Afters a few beta OTA rollout, Samsung paused new test build OTA around the S25 series launch (in January). At that time, every Galaxy smartphone owner thought it would be the end of the beta activity, but that didn’t happen.
February and March also ended up in the same anticipation, ad the wait extended to April. Earlier this month, Samsung released One UI 7.0 for the S24 series, which met with a devastating bug and a brief halt to the global rollout.
Samsung resumed S24’s One UI 7 release and expanded throughout the world alongside Fold 6 and Flip 6.
Last week, plans for rollout only picked up pace with stable One UI 7.0 for S23 units. On Monday, the Korean tech giant also surprised S23 FE, S22 series and Tab S8 owners, as well as Flip 4 and Fold 4.
It appears that Samsung had been testing these devices for a long time and waiting to conclude the beta campaign for the S24 and S23 series. While things may look fine now, it took the Korean tech company a long time to pick up pace on this matter.
Now, when the most awaited devices are in sight, Samsung could move forward with One UI 7.0 rollout for mid-range and budget devices from A-series, M-Series, F-series and more, something that could’ve witnessed earlier.

These Samsung Galaxy A phones will get One UI 7 as last major upgrade

One UI 7 is rolling out to several Samsung devices, and some Galaxy A phones will receive it as the last major upgrade. Software updates come with plenty of new features and design changes, but also hit a support milestone.
Samsung is gradually expanding the One UI 7 update to Galaxy devices. Flagship smartphone users have joined the party with the latest OS update. However, the expansion will continue till the month of July this year.
Galaxy S21 series, Z Flip3, and Z Fold3 hit their last OS upgrade with One UI 7. It’s a major firmware, which introduces design changes along with new features. Spending the remaining time on One UI 7 is worth it.
It’s the same case for other lineups, including the Galaxy A series. While most of the design changes and core OS features will be provided, the availability would vary by hardware capabilities and optimization status.
One UI 7 is the last major upgrade for these Galaxy A phones
- Galaxy A14
- Galaxy A14 5G
Rollout is expected in June 2025.
The Galaxy A14 and A14 5G, released in 2023 with Android 13, are promised 2 major updates (Android 14 and 15), making One UI 7 their last. These devices may receive more new quarterly or biannual patches for security improvements.
So if you own a Galaxy A14 or its 5G variant, you don’t need to worry about One UI 7. Samsung is committed to providing the Android 15 upgrade with changes and features as much as possible, meeting the hardware functionalities.

Here’s one camera feature you should try on your One UI 7.0 device

One UI 7.0 comes with a new redesigned camera UI and there’s one video recording feature that I started using more as soon as I got a grip of its navigation.
The new camera app consists of a redesigned layout including buttons, controls, and modes to help users easily go through on-screen features. Through this new change, the camera provides a clearer viewport preview. It results in a more focused photography and videography session.
The mode selection menu has been reorganized and covers only a little portion of the interface, instead of taking a giant chunk in the previous version. The new changes include the enhanced zoom controls featuring at smooth transition at every button and hold and scroll operations.
But there’s a hidden zoom control that appears only after you hit the record button. By default, the app shows zoom buttons, but when you tap capture, the app enables a magnifying glass icon.
As soon as you access the magnifying glass, the app will unveil a zoom slider above the capture button. This slider is different from the one that originates from zoom buttons.
It has positive and negative markings to increase and decrease zoom. This slider works with sensitivity, which means, it will respond to zoom instructions based on how long you are holding on to the slider.
This may look tricky at the first time, but a few tries can turn you into a Pro. And eventually, this may become your favorite zoom controls to shoot any time of video format.
I prefer this slider because it hands-over more freedom to control zoom compared to the buttons. There’s no numeric constraints, instead, you can zoom in or out effortlessly. The redesigned camera controls including the new video zoom feature is available for One UI 7.0 devices.

5 things you need to know about Samsung’s One UI 8!

Samsung’s Android 16-based One UI 8.0 is poised to be a significant update for Galaxy devices, with a release timeline, feature set, and strategic shifts that reflect both technological advancements and market dynamics.
One UI 8 seems likely to launch in Q3 2025, earlier than usual, due to Google’s Android 16 timeline. Samsung is skipping mid-cycle updates like One UI 7.1, going straight to One UI 8.0.
Leaks show that One UI 8 has more blur effects, dynamic colors, and fun visual changes. It appears Galaxy AI features, like Now Brief, will expand to more devices with One UI 8.
Rumors indicate One UI 8.5 may debut with the Galaxy S26 series, reflecting a new update strategy. Let’s have a deep dive into 5 things you need to know about Samsung’s One UI 8!
New launch timeline – Q4 to Q3
- It’s all Google that deserves the credit.
Samsung’s One UI 8 is expected to launch in Q3 2025, likely in July, instead of the usual Q4.
This change seems driven by Google’s earlier release of Android 16, expected in June 2025. The alignment suggests Samsung is adapting to keep pace with Google’s schedule.

First major upgrade without mid-cycle release
- Neither One UI 7.1, One UI 7.1.1, nor One UI 7.0.1.
Unlike past updates, Samsung appears to be skipping smaller versions like One UI 7.1 or 7.1.1.
One UI 8 will be a direct major upgrade based on Android 16, possibly due to delays in One UI 7’s rollout. This means users might see a more significant update without interim patches.
Most beautiful UI upgrade
- More blur, more dynamic colors, more fun.
One UI 8 is shaping up to be the most visually appealing update yet, with more blur effects and dynamic colors.
These changes, including refined animations, aim to make the interface more fluid and fun, enhancing the overall user experience on Galaxy devices.

Galaxy AI upgrades
- Reserved Galaxy AI features coming to even more devices.

A bold successor likely
- One UI 8.5 may debut with the Galaxy S26 series.
After One UI 8.0, Android 16-based One UI 8.5 might debut with the Galaxy S26 series, suggesting Samsung’s new approach to software updates.
This could mean mid-cycle updates to keep devices fresh, aligning with Google’s faster Android release cycle and potentially offering more frequent enhancements.
