Exclusive: Samsung pushes software team to wrap up next One UI version, aligns with Android 16 rollout

Samsung fans, get ready for some exciting news! A trusted insider from Samsung has shared that the South Korean company has instructed its software team to speed up development on the next version of its popular One UI interface. While the insider didn’t officially confirm the name, rumor suggests it could be One UI 8. The goal is to have it ready early this year and perfectly synced with Google’s Android 16 rollout. This move shows Samsung’s determination to keep its devices fresh and competitive, especially after the unacceptable delay with One UI 7.
Samsung’s leadership has made it clear: the next One UI version needs to be finished quickly. The plan is to launch it just after Android 16, which Google has hinted could arrive as early as June 2025. The insider didn’t spill the beans on the exact name—leaving us guessing if it’s indeed One UI 8—but the timing lines up with what we’re hearing about it.
What’s driving this urgency? Samsung clearly remembers how upset users got when One UI 7 was delayed. The Android 15-based One UI version hit some surprises, so the stable version didn’t roll out until April 7, 2025—way later than everyone expected. The company took some heat for leaving older Galaxy devices in the dust while the new Galaxy S25 series shipped with One UI 7 out of the box. Now, Samsung appears eager to turn things around, ensuring the next version lands on time and keeps users happy.
Samsung One UI 8: What We Know So Far
While Samsung hasn’t made any official announcements about One UI 8, there’s plenty of evidence that development is already in full swing. Just a few weeks ago, internal test builds of what’s believed to be One UI 8 popped up on Samsung’s servers.
These test versions were found for the Galaxy S25 series, with build versions like S938BXXU1BYC1—nothing like the One UI 7 software being sent out now. It suggests Samsung kicked off work on its Android 16-based update months earlier than usual. More proof came when a Galaxy S25 model showed up on Geekbench, running Android 16 with what looks like One UI 8.
Recently, a Samsung community moderator also confirmed, “We’re in the early stages,” urging fans not to get too excited just yet. Still, this current development confirms the insider’s claim: Samsung’s software team is hard at work, testing the next version across multiple devices.
Samsung’s rush to match Android 16’s schedule is a clever move. After the One UI 7 delay, fans got disappointed and felt ignored by the company. Speeding up the next update could help Samsung regain trust and show it cares about quick releases. Also, Google’s moving fast with Android 16—starting developer previews in November 2024 and planning public betas soon—so Samsung can’t waste time.
If Samsung pulls this off, it’ll be a big win for Galaxy owners. Picture this: Android 16 and a fresh One UI version hitting your phone by mid-2025—maybe just weeks after Google’s final release. That’s a big change from the One UI 7 mess, where beta testing took forever before landing in April (rollout hasn’t yet started). Phones like the Galaxy S24, S23, Z Fold6, and Tab S10 series are already testing One UI 7 and might be the first to get One UI 8, with older devices not far behind.
For now, Samsung’s playing it quiet—no hints about features or a set date. But the insider tip, plus leaks about internal tests and performance scores, tells us the software team is working hard and fast. After the One UI 7 hiccups, Samsung looks ready to fix things and give Galaxy users a reason to smile. Stay tuned—this might be one of the quickest updates Samsung’s ever pulled off!

Samsung sidelined Galaxy S21, S22 and S23 flagships, Galaxy M56 makes it crystal clear

Samsung has recently launched a new mid-range smartphone in India. Besides a new camera design and sleek profile, the new Samsung Galaxy M56 brings One UI 7 out of the box and supports six years of Android and security updates.
It’s not the first non-premium phone that’s getting the new OS pre-installed. Samsung has previously launched a few entry-level models that get the latest Android 15-based One UI 7 out of the box, while flagship owners are still waiting.
Samsung has been working to optimize Android 15 for Galaxy devices since December 2024. The company has launched the Open Beta in early December for the Galaxy S24 series, which expanded in March to foldables and the S23 series.
The Samsung Galaxy M56 5G will go on sale in India next week. The company highlights that the One UI 7 brings a redesigned user experience, smart new widgets, modern app icons, Now Bar for real-time updates, and core security enhancements.
Six-gen OS upgrades make the Galaxy M56 superior to flagships like the Galaxy S21 and S22 series. While One UI 7 is the last major upgrade for the S21 series, the S22 will be reaching its end of support with the One UI 8 update.
As for the Galaxy S23 series, this lineup is also eligible for only four generations of OS upgrades. Samsung’s new 7-year update policy is applicable on Galaxy S24 series and later flagship models including the Galaxy S25 series.
On the flip side, the mid-range Galaxy M56 will be receiving major upgrades up to Android 21. Security updates are also promised to be delivered by up to October 2030, which could go even beyond if Samsung revises the support.
While the S21 and S22 series were released years ago, they are still better than Samsung’s 2025 mid-ranger. Consumers have paid five times extra money, and the support isn’t what they deserve at this point, in the mid-range, getting valued.

Samsung opts out of Android 16 Beta Program amid growing One UI 8 leak

Despite having Android at its core, Samsung’s One UI doesn’t join Google’s Beta Program. This year, no surprise: Samsung has skipped Google’s Android 16 Beta list, which is joined by many rivaling brands like Xiaomi.
Google has recently released Android 16 Beta 4 for Pixel phones. It comes as the second Platform Stability release, which is almost as stable as the official release. Google also announced compatible apps can now be listed on the Play Store.
However, Samsung’s decision to skip Google’s Beta aligns with its history of focusing on One UI. This approach lets the company “personally” refine its software, though it means Galaxy users wait longer for Android 16 previews.
Android 16 Beta is now available on various devices from brands including Google, iQOO, Lenovo, OnePlus, Sharp, Oppo, Realme, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Honor. The new OS is available on top of the previous version of their respective custom skins.

Samsung will bring Android 16 to Galaxy devices as part of One UI 8. Other Android OEMs also have their custom skins based on Android, but they usually join Google’s Android Beta Program ahead of their own skin’s testing.
While Android 16 is getting ready for official release, Samsung has also shifted gears and has been internally testing the One UI 8. This new iteration will be unveiled with the next-gen foldables this year, and we’ve got plenty of leaks.
One UI 8 could be a minor upgrade in comparison to One UI 7. Key interface aspects will remain similar, but we would see design tweaks across system apps such as Samsung Gallery, My Files, and Quick Share. Here’s more on One UI 8:
