Why Galaxy S23 launcher is crashing after One UI 7 beta 2?

Samsung users are reporting a strange bug crashing the Galaxy S23 home launcher after installing the One UI 7 Beta 2 and here’s an explanation of what’s really happening.
This flagship has recently enrolled in the One UI 7 beta program and its latest installment — beta 2 has brought numerous new bug fixes as well as system improvements to optimize the user experience.
The software build also contains features such as full version of drawing assist, natural language search, Now bar improvements and more. These are pretty useful additions, but some users started experiencing a grave problem with Google’s Gemini assistant that is hindering the device interactions.
I verified the issue and here’s the explanation. This bug is currently exclusive to the Gemini live mode. Gemini comes pre-installed in the latest Galaxy devices, and it powers the Google Assistant with the long-press power key. From there, users can trigger the Gemini Live.
In the recent One UI 7 beta, you can interact with Gemini Live but only as long as you have it active on the screen. However, the real problem begins as soon as you send it into the background.
Gemini live is designed to work as an overlay on the home screen, and an indicator of the program will appear in the status bar with live notifications.
After sending the app into the background, the One UI home interface starts to freeze. You can tap on the home screen to open the app, but the screen won’t respond to gestures.
You can press the lock button to lock the device, but it resumes to the last state as soon as press the button.
That said, the phone stops responding to gestures but supports touch interactions to open the app. It freezes all interactions and shows “System UI isn’t responding”. This message is followed by two typical launcher crash options — Close app and Wait.
The first will reboot the launcher by closing all application. The other will wait in some frozen scenario until the system again pops up the same crash message.
What’s the issue?
The problem could be related to the software instability, Gemini app’s background activity, microphone usage, or live notification.
So, I tried the same with the audio recorder app, which uses the microphone in background and it also shows up in the live notifications. However, the app worked well. The same goes for the Galaxy S24 Ultra and S25 Ultra.
This situation brings me back to the fact that this issue could be related to the app incompatibility or the latest beta’s instability.
So, we should wait for the next beta to get a fix for this bug, crashing One UI launcher on Galaxy S23 series.

This Android 15-based update, which started on April 22, 2025, brings a refreshed user interface, enhanced AI features, and improved performance to Samsung’s 2023 flagship lineup. Will Samsung bring Lock Screen animation fix in May 2025 One UI 7 update

Some users report that there’s an animation-related bug on the lock screen, which Samsung should address with the May 2025 One UI 7 firmware. Notably, Samsung is gradually releasing the Stable One UI 7 update for Galaxy devices.
While Samsung took enough time in internal and Beta testing, the One UI 7 isn’t free of bugs. After lock screen shortcuts, the animation bug has been reported by some users on their One UI 7 devices, which the May 2025 update should fix.
Users report that the phone lock animation is laggy on One UI 7 devices. Users manage to reproduce the issue with a specific set of operations. Hitting the side key takes a bit to transition the screen to the locked state, which is weird.
We’ve seen several reports on Samsung’s community forum and subreddits. While the company hasn’t formally acknowledged the bug, the resolution is highly likely to be included in the next firmware update with May patches.
Galaxy S24 and S23 series have got the April patch with the One UI 7 update. Meanwhile, Samsung has recently released the April update for the Galaxy S25 series. The May 2025 OTA may take some time to be available for the Galaxy devices.
Samsung is running the One UI 7 Beta for the Galaxy A55. The phone yesterday received the third beta build in India, which included the May 2025 patch. However, the flagships require a more precise firmware to fix the animation.
Disclaimer: Samsung has not confirmed the contents of the May 2025 update. Based on the recent developments in the Samsung Community, the May update could be a bold one, but don’t excessively expect from the next firmware.

One UI 8 leak previews stunning new blur aesthetics for dialog boxes

Samsung’s Android 16 upgrade could bring meaningful upgrades to the overall appearance. A new leak indicates that the One UI 8 update will integrate stunning new blur aesthetics for dialog boxes across the user interface.
Tipster TechKhaled posted alleged One UI 8 screenshots, spotlighting redesigned dialog boxes with a beautiful blur application. It appears to be a design breakthrough as compared to the previous One UI versions, making the view quite elegant.
In One UI 8, the dialog box would ditch the conventional solid background that adopts Light and Dark color modes. Rather, the new version switches to a high-density blur background overlay, which should be refined even further.

The latest One UI 7 is a massive upgrade in Samsung’s history. However, the One UI 8 will further refine the design with dynamic colors and a blur engine. The dialog box blur is just an example; Samsung has a lot more in its bag.
Earlier, we’ve seen leaked screenshots from the Samsung Gallery and My Files apps. The stock applications have also added minor yet visible tweaks. Quick Share could see a big design shift, adding dedicated Send and Receive sections.
Samsung is expected to launch the One UI 8 with the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7. A recent report claimed that Samsung could hold Unpacked event in early July. We may see the official One UI 8 debut in early to mid-July, accordingly.
