Samsung has recently released a new beta update for its Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and Galaxy Z Fold 6. The new One UI 7 beta update added exciting new features, one of which is the ability to access Google’s Gemini AI assistant using the side button on these devices.

The Gemini AI side button access is already available on the Galaxy S25 series, and now, Samsung has expanded to more Galaxy devices. This new feature gives users more control over how they interact with their phone.

Before this update, these Samsung Galaxy phones only allowed users to activate Bixby by pressing and holding the side or power button. Now, with One UI 7, users can choose which digital assistant they want to use, including Google’s Gemini, Amazon Alexa, or even ChatGPT.

This feature makes it easier for people to use their preferred AI assistant with just a simple press of the side button. Currently, the feature is in the testing phase for these devices, and the stable update will make it available for all models.

To set up this new feature, go to Settings >> click on the Advanced features >> tap on the Side button option >> Long press. Then, tap the gear icon next to the “Digital Assistant” option. From there, you can choose Gemini or any other supported assistant like Alexa or ChatGPT.

This feature arrived on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 with One UI 7 Beta 3, while the Galaxy S24 series received it with One UI 7 Beta 6. These updates also bring bug fixes and improvements.

Samsung has shared an updated roadmap for its One UI 7 update in India. The company has revised the update roadmap on the Members app, which has replaced the mention of “25” with “2025” to end the confusion.

Recently, Samsung dropped the One UI 7 roadmap for India. The rollout plan has mentioned devices under four months: April 25, May 25, June 25, and July 25, where the mention of “25” led users to mistake it as a date, but it’s for the year.

Apart from the fix, the remaining release timeframe for devices is unchanged. The latest flagships get updates in April, while older flagship phones and tablets will be upgraded next month. June will be the update month for non-premium devices.

Samsung initially faced challenges with the One UI 7 rollout. A bug affecting device unlocking paused the update in Korea, Europe and the US; however, it has been resumed, and expansion will happen sequentially.

The rollout begins in April 2025 with Samsung’s latest flagships. The Galaxy S24, S24+, S24 Ultra, Z Flip 6, and Z Fold 6 will receive the update first, ensuring top-tier devices get priority.

In May 2025, Samsung will update older flagships and tablets. This includes the Galaxy S23 series, S22 series, S21 series, Z Flip5, Z Fold5, Z Flip4, Z Fold4, and Tab S10, S9, S8 series.

June 2025 will bring One UI 7 to mid-range devices like the Galaxy A16, A35, A55, A34, A54, and others. Tablets such as the Tab S9 FE and XCover7 are also included.

Samsung has recently resumed the One UI 7 rollout for its flagship Galaxy S24 series, along with the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6. Now, users of slightly older models, including the Galaxy S23, S22, and S21 series, are eagerly awaiting their turn to receive the highly anticipated One UI 7 update.

As of April 2025, the One UI 7 stable update has been successfully deployed to the Galaxy S24 series. According to the official roadmap, Samsung is preparing to release the update for the Galaxy S23 series later this month. While the initial rollout will likely begin for beta users in selected countries, a broader global rollout is expected to start in early May 2025.

Moreover, Samsung is also reportedly planning to begin rolling out One UI 7 to the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 series around the same time in early May 2025. It will gradually roll out to all models.

Since Samsung recently paused and then resumed the One UI 7 rollout for the Galaxy S24, it is expected that the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S22, and Galaxy S21 series will receive the update globally without any delays or interruptions.

Samsung September 2024 update plan

After a brief pause, Samsung starts rolling out the new One UI 7 update to the Galaxy Z Flip 6, Z Fold 6, and Z Fold SE. The initial release was initiated on April 7 in South Korea, and it expanded to Europe and the US on April 10.

Meanwhile, Samsung had to temporarily suspend the expansion due to a serious bug found on some Galaxy S24 models. The company has investigated the issue and addressed it two days prior to resuming the distribution.

The Galaxy S24 series has recently received the One UI 7 BYD9 update, which is now also heading to the Z Flip 6, Z Fold 6, and Z Fold SE in South Korea. As it’s a phased rollout, it will be expanded to even more markets sequentially.

Samsung has an advisory for One UI 7 eligible device owners

One UI 7 Beta

Over the past two months, Samsung has been facing a lot of criticism for its semi-partial transparency over One UI 7 and the rollout delay, but now, it is publishing a new advisory for all eligible device users.

One UI 7 comes with new features and system improvements, which makes the software more interactive than its predecessor. Despite these improvements, device owners have to wait longer than expected for a rollout.

The update was released on April 7th, which was soon followed by an intentional halt due to unknown software issues. Samsung was aware of the rollout pause and acknowledged this mistake in public, while announcing that One UI 7 OTA release will resume soon.

Yesterday, Samsung released the first-ever One UI 7 roadmap for India, beside rollout dates, it consists of the following advisory for eligible device owners.

  • Update schedule and eligible models could be changed if we encounter any issues through ongoing review
  • The update may also be halted for a while even after the official update when an emergency fix is occurred.
  • We will notify through Samsung Members if there are any schedule or model list changes.

Samsung One UI 7 eligible device advisory

It seems Samsung has learned from the recent backlash, and it is reflecting on these lines of text. Still, look at the halt part, where the phone maker has clarified that the update could be paused in case of any bug that might appear after official OTA release for a device.

So, if you witness another pause, Samsung won’t be responsible for anything because it has already told us what could go wrong, and you must have to wait for the software to get fixed.

For now, the Korean tech company has resolved the rollout issue and resumed One UI 7 upgrade for S24 series, Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. It will continue to expand from this day forward.

BREAKING: Samsung resumes One UI 7 rollout, Galaxy S24 gets new BYD9 update

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

Samsung starts rolling out a new One UI 7 update to the Galaxy S24 series. Initially available in South Korea, the new One UI 7 BYD9 build should soon go live in more markets. It’s a more refined build over the initial one and contains fixes for the lock screen bug.

This new build marks the resumption of the suspended rollout. As a Galaxy user, I am disappointed, though Samsung deserves praise given a quicker investigation and resolution to the serious glitch encountered by many.

The changelog mentions “stability improvements” for the Galaxy S24 series. It’s a Stable Hotfix update that is currently making its way to devices that have been upgraded to the initial One UI 7 Stable update after April 7 in Korea.

It was reported that the initial One UI 7 update had some serious issues with the unlock functionality that led the company to suspend the expansion. As the One UI 7 rollout has resumed with BYD9 build, users can now expect a swift expansion globally.

To recall, Stable One UI 7 builds disappeared from the firmware server over the last two days. Exynos models were initially affected in South Korea, but the entire rollout has been halted for the Galaxy S24 series, Z Flip 6, and Z Fold 6.

Your Galaxy device may have also received the new build. Notification will arrive late, but you can manually check for the updates within Settings > Software update. Hit Download and install so your phone can fetch a new OTA.
