Samsung is patiently working on the Android 15-based One UI 7 update. Google is already working on Android 16, aiming for a Q2 release. Meanwhile, OS update support is expiring for some Samsung phones with One UI 7 (Android 15).

Galaxy devices come with a clear-cut OS update policy. The company guarantees the software’s lifespan at the time of official launch. For most models, the minimum software support is four years, and entry-level models are excluded.

While One UI 7 is yet to roll out, a handful of Samsung models are already confirmed to lose OS update support this year. Android 15 will come as a farewell update for some popular Samsung handsets, while some more security updates will arrive.

OS update support is expiring

Samsung’s Galaxy S21 series was launched with Android 11-based One UI 3.1. The company is set to upgrade the flagship lineup to a new OS for the 4th time. However, it will be the end of major upgrades and One UI 8 won’t be provided.

Similarly, the Galaxy Fold and Flip-branded foldable phones released in 2021 will also miss out on getting the Android 16. The upcoming One UI 7 is almost confirmed but the remaining time will be spent on Android 15.

Message Editing

Samsung Galaxy S25 introduces a new feature that lets you edit messages after you’ve sent them. If you made a mistake or want to add something, you don’t need to send a new message, you can edit the message.

For that, just press and hold the sent message, tap the Edit option, change the content, and tap the Send option again. The message will show that it’s been edited, and you can also see the edit history if you tap on the “edited” label.

The Edit feature of the Samsung Messages app only works on messages sent to other Galaxy phones with One UI 7, and you can edit a message up to three times within 15 minutes.

Automatic Deletion of OTP Messages

One UI 7 on Galaxy S25 series adds automatic deletion of OTP messages feature. These messages contain important codes for logging into apps or websites, and now you don’t have to worry about them sitting in your inbox for too long.

After 24 hours, OTP messages will be moved to the trash, and after 30 days, they will be permanently deleted. By default, this feature is turned off, but you can easily activate it for added security.

To turn on this feature, open the Messages app, tap the three dots in the top-right corner, go to Settings, then Additional Settings, and enable automatic deletion for OTP messages.

Galaxy S25 series drops Samsung Messages in favor of Google Messages

Samsung introduced custom Game Booster FPS options with Stable One UI 7 update. The official version is exclusively available on the Galaxy S25 series. The software’s rollout has been delayed due to a possible rollout of the fourth Beta update.

Game Booster in One UI 7 now allows you to set your own FPS rate for gaming. You can tweak between 60Hz and 120Hz frame rate modes. Interestingly, the FPS options would support any games that don’t offer an option of their own to set the refresh rate.

Meanwhile, an incompatible app won’t offer any additional pleasing effect despite setting the 120Hz frame rate. You can access the FPS options within the Game Booster section inside the Game Launcher application on your Galaxy.

Apart from 60Hz and 120Hz, you can further customize the FPS (20Hz, 30Hz, 40Hz, 50Hz, and 60Hz) for games individually. The “Customizations for individual games” option is available within the Game Booster functionality.

One UI 7 Rollout

Samsung started the One UI 7 Beta Program in early December. Since then, the company has rolled out three major Beta updates for the Galaxy S24 users. While we were awaiting the Stable update, it was revealed that the Beta 4 was about to release.

The One UI staff has identified a critical bug in the One UI 7 Beta 3. The screen appears more yellowish than intended while using the Color optimization feature in Natural mode. The problem has been addressed and a fix would roll out with Beta 4.

Samsung is continuously testing new One UI 6.1-based builds for the flagships. It seems the February 2025 security patch will be provided before the One UI 7 update. Time will tell as Samsung remains silent on the One UI 7 rollout roadmap.

Home Up’s integration in One UI Home is a big development in One UI 7. Samsung has brought plenty of new and powerful personalization tools to the Home Up plugin. It reduces the reliance on the Good Lock app to access Home Up tools.

To access the Home Up without Good Lock, simply tap and hold at an empty area on the home screen. Four options will be displayed and here you need to hit Settings, at the bottom, there’s a new option entitled More customizations.

It will take you to the Home Up’s personalization dashboard. The app’s One UI 7 version brings next-level customization features. You can tweak the home screen animations and even adjust the segments using the sliders offered.

Well, you can also access the Home Up inside the Good Lock app like before. The app has recently undergone a big revamp, altering the user interface to align with ease of access. New tools allow you to play with Edge Panel, Home Screen, and Recents.
