Samsung revises bonus policy with stock-based compensation

Samsung has reportedly decided to pay part of employees bonus in stock rather than cash. It’s the first time when the company has linked pay-to-share performance at a time it is struggling with chipmaking.
Bloomberg report suggests that Samsung will pay a portion of the annual bonus in stock (shares) to executives starting January next year. The stock portion of the bonus — previously all cash — varies from 50% to 100%, increasing in proportion to seniority.
This decision includes a mechanism where the number of shares awarded will decrease if the stock price drops a year later, signaling a strong intent to manage the stock price effectively.
Here’s the catch:
If the stock price decreases by January 2026 compared to when the agreement was signed, the number of shares awarded will be reduced proportionally.
- For example, if the stock price falls by 10% a year later, recipients will receive only 90% of the initially agreed-upon shares.
- If the stock price remains the same or increases, the agreed-upon number of shares will be awarded in full.
Company officials will also be restricted from selling shares for one to two years, depending on their rank. The company has reportedly informed employees of this plan to partially distribute the 2025 Outperformance Incentive.
The Korean tech giant may expand this program to regular employees starting next year. It’s said that senior managers will be required to choose at least 50% of their bonuses in stock, VPs 70%, Presidents 80%, and registered executives 100%.

5.8mm! Galaxy S25 Edge to be incredibly thin, iPhone 17 Air to be thanked

At the Galaxy Unpacked, Samsung showcased the Galaxy S25 Edge prototype. The smartphone is expected to be launched in the second quarter. A new input talks about the thin design dimensions and trade-offs of the Galaxy S25 Edge.
Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is expected to be incredibly thin to 5.84mm. iPhone 17 Air has reportedly forced Samsung to rethink the S25 Edge’s design decision. That said, the company has made last-minute changes that are bold.
Insider says that Samsung planned a 6.4mm Galaxy S25 Edge (Slim). The device was assumed to have a triple camera setup including a telephoto lens. However, a sleeker design was preferred to compete with the iPhone 17 Air.
The dimensions of the phone are rumored to be 158.2 x 75.5 x 5.84 mm. The major difference between prototype and CAD renders (by Onleaks) is because of the fact that Samsung has been testing two different design prototypes.
To reduce the thickness, Samsung has reportedly dropped the Telephoto camera. The battery is also getting reduced to under 4000mAh. These trade-offs are only aligned at reducing the thickness to challenge the iPhone 17 Air.
Key Changes & Design Highlights:
- Ultra-thin body: 5.84mm, down from the earlier 6.4mm prototype
- Camera cutback: Now a dual-camera setup (200MP main + 50MP ultra-wide), with no telephoto lens
- Camera bump issue: Samsung designed an oblong camera module to create an optical illusion, making the protrusion appear less significant
Apple’s iPhone 17 Air could be thinner between 5.5mm and 6.0mm. The device could have only one rear camera as part of achieving the ultra-thin profile. A single speaker is also possible instead of stereo speakers for audio.
