Samsung Messages One UI 7 Beta

A Beta participant recommended Samsung to enhance the One UI 7 design with squircles and blurs. The latest software is currently in the Beta testing phase, while the official rollout is expected to start by mid to end of February this year.

Following the Beta 3 rollout, Samsung’s community was filled with new user-generated posts. Among them, a Galaxy user shared insightful ideas for enhancing the One UI 7 design by utilizing more squircles and blurs.

Interestingly, the One UI 7 has already adopted rounded corners across the user interface components. However, a more natural “squircle” shape is in demand which could make the design even more appealing.

The user’s post was quite insightful and was supported by relevant graphics. The user explained how squircles could offer a smoother transition than the traditional rounded rectangles, enhancing visual harmony on the One UI 7.

In addition, the original poster has also suggested adopting blur effects into animations. With animations integrated with the blur engine, this aspect will elevate and offer a feel that is less abrupt and more natural.

Samsung acknowledged the user’s post via community moderator. The post was praised by the Beta Team member and suggestions are listed and forwarded to the development team for consideration and application if appropriate.

Samsung’s acknowledgment via moderator:

1. Squircle (square – circle) Curvature Across One UI

Your explanation of the transition between sharp-edged rectangles, circle-based rounded rectangles, and squircles is both insightful and well-articulated. The consistency and visual harmony that could result from universally adopting squircle curvature in One UI are compelling.

As you’ve noted, some parts of One UI, like the Quick Panel, already incorporate this curvature. Expanding its application could indeed provide a more cohesive and polished experience.

2. Enhanced Use of Blur in Animations

Your suggestion to integrate blur effects into system animations is both creative and practical. The examples you provided—such as adding blur to the shrinking app icons during app launches or enhancing the unlock animation—paint a vivid picture of how these changes could elevate the overall fluidity and elegance of One UI.
