Galaxy Watch all-solid-state battery upgrade? Samsung drops big hint
Samsung Galaxy Watch could adopt an all-solid-state battery next year. Recently, the Chief Executive of Samsung Electro-Mechanics dropped a big hint at the breakthrough battery.
According to the info, Samsung Electro-Mechanics will showcase an ultra-compact all-solid-state battery prototype this year, with plans for mass production in 2026.
Samsung last year announced that it was working on the development of an all-solid-state battery. The next-generation battery technology is aimed to debut with future wearable devices.
The new solution equips a high energy density compared to conventional battery (lithium-ion). It is said that the company has supplied prototypes to some customers for evaluation.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics is a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics. The company supplies battery cells for Galaxy products developed by Samsung’s MX Division.
It looks like Samsung is experimenting with new technologies on wearables before smartphones. The company’s first 3nm chipset powers the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra.
Now, developments suggest the innovative battery technology will debut with the Galaxy Watch in 2026. That said, the Galaxy Watch 8 (set to release this year) would retain the lithium-ion battery.
The all-solid-state battery will be more powerful and reliable than the conventional solution. Higher density will unlock long-lasting backup and significant improvement to the overall life.
Samsung will make full utilization of this new battery technology with a new power-efficient chipset and optimized software to offer a major breakthrough in terms of battery life.
