One UI 8

Samsung is internally conducting tests on Android 16. Recently, work on the Samsung One UI 8 has been revealed through stock app codes, with the next One UI iteration expected to bring support for Decal Shader for improved animations.

Quoting the One UI 8 Decal Shader input, Samsung insider IceUniverse posted a video clip showcasing a Chinese UI’s fingerprint unlock animations. The new code changes are highly likely to be related to revamping the transitions in One UI.

One UI succeeded Samsung’s TouchWiz user experience. It was also based on the Android operating system and powered Galaxy devices before One UI. The software offered a neat and clean look accompanied by rich visuals and animations.

Galaxy S phones’ waterdrop live wallpaper effect was quite famous. The clip posted by Ice suggests that Samsung is preparing to bring back the charm of Touchwiz with the Android 16-based One UI 8 operating system this year.

Samsung’s consideration to adopt the Decal Shader solution could elevate user interface, materials, and animation effects. Decal Shader’s support on One UI 8 is aimed at potentially enhancing the visual capabilities of Samsung’s devices

At present, Samsung is swiftly working to polish the One UI 7, which is already too late. The software would have been released in October, but yet to start landing on Galaxy devices, and expected by mid to end of February 2025.

One UI 7 brings a radically redesigned UI along with new features. The software is currently available on the Beta channel of the S24 series. Samsung has so far released three major Beta updates since the initial launch in early December.
