Camera

The new Galaxy S25 Ultra utilizes a new 50-megapixel ultrawide camera. It doubles as a Macro sensor (through software), offering 4x clearer pictures than the previous models.

While the remaining camera hardware remains unchanged, new chipset and AI are playing a key role. The camera and videography capabilities are being elevated further, including features like:

  • High-Resolution video recording feature – Record videos with significantly reduced noise, even in low-light conditions.
  • 50MP Ultra Wide – New image sensor with an advanced Macro mode, offering four times better clarity than previous models.
  • AI-powered Audio Eraser so you can easily remove unwanted background noise to enhance the video clip.

Processor

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite is powering the Galaxy S25 series in all countries. The new chipset features up to 4.47GHz primary frequency, which is a huge upgrade over the 8 Gen 3.

Integrated with optimized software, the S25 Ultra offers stunning performance to users. In the most recent benchmark, the device scored 3182 in single-core and 10120 in multi-core tests.

Geekbench scores often fluctuate but the S25 Ultra has maintained a decent margin over its rivals. The device usually scores nearly 3100 points in single-core and 1000 points in multi-core tests.

Software

The software part may be disappointing a bit. It is rumored that the Galaxy S25 series may come with the Android 16-based One UI 7.0 (not the One UI 7.1) operating system at launch.

If true, it will be a significant shift in Samsung’s software development and distribution strategy. However, the new phones won’t miss out on any new features the way Apple does with iPhones.

Samsung would also ensure longevity by offering support for seven years of OS and security updates. The policy was debuted with the S24 series and decent enough to be retained further.

Design

Samsung is evolving its flagship smartphone design, starting with the S25 Ultra. The latest flagship has ditched the conventional design featuring sharp frame corners, completing a boxy design.

Rather, the phone’s frame is slightly rounded to end the sharp corners. The phone remains in a phablet form, but the refinements made on the frame and corners are centered on user feedback.

On the rear, the camera sensor placement remains intact (the same as the S24 Ultra). To give the panel a refresh, Samsung is expanding the thicker camera rings that was first seen on the Z Fold6.

Launch and Price

There are no clouds of uncertainty on the launch date of the Galaxy S25 series. Samsung has officially confirmed that the event is taking place on January 22, 2025, in San Jose.

The company will disclose the official release date at the time of unveiling the devices, however, pre-reservations are live in various countries, bringing exciting incentives and perks.

Expected price in the US

The S25 Ultra may start with a 12Gb + 256Gb configuration at $1299. The phone’s 512Gb and 1Tb variants will be paired with 16Gb RAM, probably costing $1419 and $1659, respectively.
