Samsung plans OLED screen wonders on Galaxy S26 Ultra!
Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra may be equipped with an innovative OLED screen. A credible media outlet shed light on the potential application of next-gen OLED technology in next year’s Ultra flagship by Samsung.
According to TheElec, Samsung plans to equip the Galaxy S26 Ultra with a CoE (Color Filter on Encapsulation) OLED screen. If it happens, the S26 Ultra will be the first bar-type smartphone equipped with Samsung’s CoE display technology.
Already used in foldables.
Samsung first debuted CoE screen with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 in 2021. The most recently released Galaxy Z Fold 6 also uses an OLED screen featuring Color Filter on Encapsulation tech.
Samsung Display also supplies CoE OLEDs to Xiaomi, Vivo, Google, and other companies. The display helps vendors make phones thinner, more vibrant, and more power-efficient.
Color Filter on Encapsulation Display
Samsung’s CoE screen technology replaces the polarizer with a color filter (in existing OLED displays) and changes the general PDL (Pixel Define Layer) to a Black PDL.
This way, the screen becomes thinner, light transmittance increases and power consumption can be reduced. The use of a color filter instead of the polarizer also results in clearer colors.
Unpacked 2025
Galaxy S26 Ultra is right a year away and we will hear more developments over time. Meanwhile, Samsung is setting the stage to unveil the Galaxy S25 series later this month in San Jose, USA.
The company has already sent Unpacked invites, with event live stream will start on January 22 on Samsung’s official YouTube channel and social media handles (X and Facebook).
