Nvidia partners with Samsung for GDDR7 Memory in RTX 50-Series GPUs
Nvidia unveiled its new RTX 50-series GPUs, which promise huge performance boosts. These new Nvidia GPUs use Samsung GDDR7 memory chips to make these graphics cards faster and more powerful.
Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, confirmed that the RTX 50-series will use GDDR7 memory from different suppliers, with Samsung providing the chips for the first batch. In mid-2023Samsung first revealed the GDDR7 memory in mid-2023, and production began later that year.
Initially, Huang mistakenly said the memory would come from Micron. Later, he corrected himself and confirmed Samsung as the first supplier of GDDR7 memory for Nvidia RTX-50 series GPUs.
The GDDR7 memory offers a major improvement over older memory types. It provides a bandwidth of up to 1.5TB/s, which is 40% faster than the previous GDDR6 memory. The chips also have a speed of 32Gbps, thanks to advanced technology called PAM3 (Pulse-Amplitude Modulation) to faster data transfer and better overall performance.
The RTX 50-series GPUs include models like the RTX 5070 Ti, which features 16GB of GDDR7 memory. This model has a 78% increase in bandwidth compared to the RTX 4070 Ti. The RTX 5070 has 12GB of GDDR7 memory and 672GB/sec bandwidth, a big improvement over the RTX 4070.
By using Samsung GDDR7 memory, Nvidia’s new RTX 50-series GPUs are expected to provide ultimate performance.
