Samsung Galaxy Watch users can soon expect an upgrade to their voice assistant with Gemini. Google is planning to replace the current Assistant on Wear OS with its new, smarter voice assistant Gemini.
The new change for the Wear OS watch has been spotted in a recent update to the Google app with version 16.0.5 by AssembleDebug (Android Authority). The codes of this new version show that Gemini will soon be available on Wear OS watches, which may also include Galaxy Watch models based on Wear OS.
Gemini uses Google’s advanced GenAI technology to make it more powerful and capable than the old Assistant. For Galaxy Watch users, this means you’ll be able to do more things with your watch using voice commands. It will make it easier to interact with your device without having to tap or scroll on the small screen.
It will be easy to activate Gemini, just simply by saying the word “Gemini.” This means you can talk to your watch hands-free, without needing to press any buttons.
Moreover, the Gemini Live feature could let you have more natural, back-and-forth conversations with the assistant. Instead of giving short, robotic answers, Gemini might respond more like a person to make it easier to ask questions or give commands.
A small animation found in the app also shows how Gemini will work on a smartwatch, confirming that the update is really coming. Although we don’t know exactly when this will roll out, it’s expected to come in the next few months.
The switch to Gemini makes the Galaxy Watch smarter for using voice commands. Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 series and later models are eligible for the Gemini integration as they are based on Wear OS.
