Samsung shows off Micro LED Watch with 4,000 nits brightness
Samsung is showcasing the Micro LED Watch concept at CES 2025. Samsung Display has developed a smartwatch prototype that sports a futuristic Micro LED screen, offering a whopping brightness of up to 4,000 nits.
Apple Watch Ultra 2 packs a 3,000-nit screen, while the Pixel Watch 3’s display peaks up to 2,000-nit. The Samsung Display prototype shown at CES 2025 is equipped with the brightest screen ever featured in a smartwatch.
Visitors looked at this stunning creation but the camera washed out colors. The reason is that the panel’s brightness is exceptionally high, making the camera sensor face difficulty recording the visualization on the screen.
Samsung’s Micro LED tech packs a bunch of tiny LEDs to show images. Thanks to the bulk of LEDs, the panel produces exceptional brightness. This way, the screen will easily manage to display stuff even in the brightest surroundings.
Notably, the Micro LED is already available in premium TVs from Samsung and other vendors. However, the technology has yet to expand to mobile devices such as smartwatches, but we might not have to wait longer.
Apple was exploring Micro LED for its Watch Series but abandoned that initiative. There would be limitations while bringing the display tech to a consumer product such as power efficiency, reliability, and durability.
The prototype showcased by Samsung Display and Galaxy Watch belong to Samsung Electronics. The Display division continues to innovate in the display segment but it doesn’t always mean that the technologies would be seen sooner in products.
