These 3 Samsung phones are no longer eligible for software updates
Samsung has released the January 2025 security update plan, which reveals that the company will no longer release software updates for three of its smartphones. These devices are Samsung Galaxy A02s, Galaxy A12, and the W21 5G (Chinese variant of Galaxy Z Fold 2).
The three smartphones were launched between late 2020 and early 2021. Now, after four years, their update support has come to an end as they have completed their update cycle.
Samsung is known for offering updates to a wide range of smartphones. The monthly, quarterly, or biannual updates depend on how old the phone is and its price. However, the company is now offering longer years of updates to entry-level smartphones too.
Both Galaxy A02s and A12 are low-budget smartphones and received two major software updates. These phones now run Android 12 with Samsung’s One UI 4.1, which includes important features and security improvements. However, as of this month, they will not get any more new updates.
The W21 5G is the Chinese version of the Galaxy Z Fold 2. This device got three major OS upgrades during its life, as it is a high-end model. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 stopped receiving updates in other regions last October, and now the W21 5G has reached the same.
Although these phones will no longer receive updates, they will continue to work normally for basic tasks. So, if you’re happy with its current performance and using an older Android version, these phones can still be reliable devices for everyday use.
Users of these devices who want the latest features and software updates may want to consider upgrading to newer phones including Galaxy A16, Galaxy A15 Galaxy A25, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Fold 5.
