Samsung Taylor US Chip Facility

Samsung is working to free up its Taylor US chip facility from Forever Chemicals, starting in 2026. The company is taking measures to comply with global regulations that restrict the use of non-degradable chemicals.

The Korean tech giant has introduced environment-friendly chip materials, which are free from forever chemicals (perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl). Removing these forever chemicals is slated to start from the Samsung Taylor US facility in 2026.

South Korea’s ETNews reports that Samsung has developed a “PFAS-free” extreme ultraviolet (EUV) rinse solution. The company has collaborated with its semiconductor material partners to develop this advanced rinse solution.

Samsung’s cutting-edge rinse solution aims to remove residues left after the process. Not that all but Samsung and its chip material partners still working on new materials as part of addressing the forthcoming US regulatory trends.

Forever Chemicals:

Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl used at chip facilities are considered permanent chemicals. These materials are tough to biodegrade in nature, resulting in years of presence in soil and surroundings even after proper disposal.

PFAS regulations will affect the entire semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, including TSMC, Intel, and others, and the development capabilities for eco-friendly alternative materials could change the dynamics of the supply chain.

Samsung Taylor Facility:

Samsung is working to establish its new semiconductor factory in Taylor, US. The outgoing Biden Govt has recently approved Samsung’s subsidies under the CHIPS Act.

The company is facing local, technological, and legal issues in the US. The construction cost increased significantly and the Foundry is failing to attract major clients for fabrication.
