Samsung and Apple will launch their thinner flagship phones this year. Apple has finalized the iPhone 17 Air to replace the iPhone 17 Plus. Samsung is also working on a thin Galaxy S25 Slim, which will launch in the next quarter.

The companies are aiming to reduce thickness as much as possible. Apple, embarked on the journey before Samsung, also having a lead in decreasing the thickness of its upcoming iPhone 17 Air against the Galaxy S25 Slim.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim may get a 6.6mm thin design, 1mm thinner than the standard Galaxy S24. Apple iPhone 17 Air is expected to be 6.2mm thin, which is about 1.65mm thinner than the iPhone 16 (which is 7.8mm thick).

Apple may have realized that the Plus variant of its iPhone lineup didn’t achieve sales momentum. The same situation is with Samsung’s Galaxy S Plus, but the S25 Plus is coming, which could be replaced with Slim in the future.

However, the market entry approach is a bit different.

Apple is entering the sleeker phone market in full fledge, replacing an existing model with a new one. Meanwhile, Samsung is bringing the Galaxy S25 Slim to gauge the market response ahead of potential changes in the future.

iPhone may beat Galaxy in terms of thinness, however, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim would get significantly better specs than the Apple iPhone 17 Air.

It is rumored that the Galaxy S25 Slim will use a 200-megapixel main camera. It would also get an unreleased ISOCELL sensor, featuring a 50-megapixel resolution and 3.5x zoom.

The battery size would be the same as the Galaxy S25 Plus and the Snapdragon 8 Elite would power the device that is slated to pack a battery of capacity between 4700mAh and 5000mAh.

Samsung will hold an Unpacked on January 22 where the S25 Slim may be teased.
