Samsung to unveil QD-OLED gaming monitors with VESA certifications at CES 2025
At CES 2025, Samsung is expected to showcase a range of new products, including gaming monitors that could feature QD-OLED panels with VESA’s latest ClearMR 2100 certification. The new certification aims to reduce motion blur and improve the clarity of fast-moving images.
The Clear Motion Ratio (CMR) is an important metric for this certification. It measures the ratio of clear pixels to blurry pixels to help quantify how well a display handles fast-moving content.
Samsung’s upcoming monitors are likely to include models from its popular Odyssey series. These may offer sizes in 16:9, 21:9, and 32:9 ultrawide formats, with some sporting QD-OLED panels and others using QLED technology.
In addition to ClearMR 2100, VESA has also introduced the DisplayHDR True Black 1000 certification. This certification is for OLED displays, including QD-OLED, that offer perfect black levels and can reach a brightness of up to 1,000 nits.
It helps improve the quality of visuals, especially in dark scenes. However, the exact brightness standards for this certification are not fully clear yet.
Samsung is working closely with VESA to create these new standards and improve OLED and QD-OLED displays for customers. Other companies, like LG, that also use Samsung’s QD-OLED panels might announce new gaming monitors with ClearMR 2100 and DisplayHDR True Black 1000 certifications at CES 2025.
