Two most common vulnerabilities found in Samsung devices
Samsung is always working to keep your device secure by releasing monthly updates that fix potential security issues. A new report from the security company Lookout shows two of the most common vulnerabilities found on Samsung devices.
According to Lookout’s Q3 2024 report, two major security issues were found on Samsung devices. AI analyzes data from 220 million devices and 360 million apps to identify global trends to help security teams protect data and find vulnerabilities.
The first, CVE-2023-21433-21434, was linked to the Galaxy Store. This vulnerability allowed hackers to install harmful apps or run malicious code using apps that were already on your device. Notably, this issue was fixed with the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update, and no newer devices are at risk.
The second vulnerability, CVE-2021-25337, was found in Samsung’s Text-to-Speech app. This flaw allowed attackers to gain control over the Android system, due to improper access control in the clipboard service in Samsung mobile devices allowing untrusted applications to read or write certain local files. Fortunately, this vulnerability was also fixed a while ago.
These common vulnerabilities report shows how important it is for Samsung to regularly update its devices. By doing so, the company helps protect users from malware, data theft, and other types of attacks. It’s important to install these security updates as soon as they’re available to keep your device safe and secure.
The Lookout report also highlighted other concerning trends, such as a 17% increase in phishing and credential theft targeting businesses, and a 32% rise in malicious apps. Additionally, iPhones are more vulnerable to phishing and web-based threats compared to Android devices.
