Samsung introduces ‘Home Appliance QR Mode’ for visually impaired home appliance users
Samsung is making it easier for people with visual impairments to use home appliances. The company has teamed up with TUAT, the creator of the Sullivan Plus app, to introduce a new feature called “Home Appliance QR Mode.” This feature helps visually impaired users find and interact with Samsung home appliances more easily.
With the Home Appliance QR Mode, users can point their phone camera at their surroundings. The app will automatically recognize nearby Samsung appliances. The app will then read out loud the location of the QR code on each appliance in 32 different languages.
Notably, this appliance QR mode feature works with over 5800 models of Samsung products, including refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, and air purifiers, released from 2022 to September 2024.
Samsung has been adding QR codes to its home appliances since 2023. These codes allow users to connect to the SmartThings platform, register products, and access user manuals. The new Home Appliance QR Mode makes it even easier for people with visual impairments to use these appliances by providing helpful information in a simple, accessible way.
At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Samsung will showcase several other features to help people with disabilities. These include the Auto Open Door feature, which opens doors with a light touch, Voice ID for recognizing family members’ voices, Voice Guidance that reads out appliance screens, and options for enlarging font and improving screen contrast.
