Samsung announced that it is fostering preps for future communications by integrating AI technology into the entire RAN, which includes radio units, digital units, and system operation.

RAN connects mobile phones to the core network. It is a critical component, which determines user experience in terms of transmission speed and communication quality.

As RAN accounts for the largest share of energy usage among the entire communication network, including core networks and data centers, the need for energy-saving technology is also high.

AI is key to the future of telecommunications: Beyond speed, sustainability and user experience are priorities. AI-powered Radio Access Networks improve performance, energy efficiency, and coverage.

Industry leaders are impressed: Telecom operators like Verizon, KDDI, NTT DoCoMo, and SoftBank recognize the potential of AI-RAN.

Collaboration is crucial: Samsung partners with NVIDIA, Keysight, VIAVI, Rohde & Schwarz, and Emerson to develop AI-Native wireless technologies.

The future of telecommunications is AI-powered: Samsung, through the AI-RAN Alliance, aims to make AI-RAN a reality in future networks.

The company is researching AI-RAN tech, which integrates AI into RAN. As demonstrated at the Silicon Valley Future Wireless Summit, AI-RAN offers impressive capabilities, including:

  • Capabilities to improve base station data throughput (i.e., the amount of data successfully transmitted by a base station over a certain period)
  • Communication coverage (i.e., the geographical range where communication services provided by a base station are available)
  • Energy efficiency, among others.

“We thank our partners for collaboration on these ground-breaking AI wireless innovations,” said Charlie Zhang, Senior Vice President at Samsung Research America (SRA) and Head of the 6G Research Team at Samsung Research. “Samsung Electronics will continue to work with our ecosystem partners to lead innovation in making AI-RAN a reality in the coming years.”
