Samsung Wallet integrates GLN to offer easy cross-border QR payments
Samsung Wallet is set to integrate GLN to enable seamless cross-border QR payments. The company is collaborating with Hana Bank’s Global Loyalty Network (GLN).
ETNews reports that the Samsung Wallet platform will start integrating the GLN overseas payment service starting January 6, 2025, unlocking a seamless QR payments experience.
Among the 9 countries where GLN overseas payments are available, Japan and Thailand will be the first to implement it, and QR code payment methods will also be supported.
Samsung is also revising customer terms and conditions, including third-party provision of personal information related to Wallet partner services to ensure smooth implementation.
The Korean tech giant continues to foster its overseas payment services on Samsung Wallet. In some areas of the US, Hong Kong, and Singapore, overseas transportation cards can also be used.
If a local merchant has an NFC device, Korean Visa and Mastercard cards issued in South Korea can be used for payment via Samsung Wallet at overseas locations.
From the business expansion perspective, using GLN is advantageous in terms of reducing fees compared to using global processing networks like Visa or Mastercard.
Due to the widespread use of smartphones, regions like Japan and Southeast Asia have more developed QR payment systems than credit card networks.
Alliance between Samsung and GLN considered a strategy to boost Wallet’s presence in regions where credit card payment networks are weak or where the spread of NFC payment is slow.
