Samsung partners with Korea Resources Recycling Association for phone recycling campaign
Samsung and the Korea Resources Recycling Association recently held an event at Seoul Station to celebrate the success of their “Valuable Recycling Made from Discarded Cellphones, Sincere to the Environment” campaign. The event took place on December 20 and gave awards to the six institutions that collected the most discarded cell phones.
This event brought together school teachers, social workers, and other officials to share the results of the campaign. The campaign ran from August to November and involved schools, children’s centers, and social welfare centers in cities like Seoul, Daegu, Gangneung, Incheon, and Jeonnam.
During the campaign, 2038 old cell phones were collected from 124 institutions, and 4971 people in 21 schools took part in educational sessions called “Circular Economy Classroom.” The aim was to teach people, especially young students, the importance of recycling and taking care of the environment.
Samsung has promoted recycling and resource conservation. Along with this campaign, they also launched a ‘Home-Closed Resource Circulation’ service, where customers can have their old phones picked up from their homes for free. This service helps ensure that discarded phones are recycled properly, and personal information is protected during the process.
Kim Mi-hwa, president of the Korea Resources Recycling Society, highlighted that old cell phones contain valuable metals that can be reused. Both Samsung and the Korea Resources Recycling Society plan to expand their educational programs and work together in 2025 to keep raising awareness about the importance of recycling and resource conservation.
