Samsung Bespoke AI Steam becomes first robot vacuum certified with ‘Privacy by Design’
Samsung has achieved a new milestone with its Bespoke AI Steam, which has become the first robot vacuum cleaner to be awarded the “Privacy by Design” (PbD) certification. This certification is given by the Personal Information Protection Commission and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) on December 19.
The “Privacy by Design certification for the Samsung Bespoke AI Steam shows the company’s dedication to integrating privacy protection into the vacuum’s design and use. This certification ensures that privacy considerations are integrated into every stage of product development, from planning and manufacturing to disposal of a product or service.
For the PbD certification, Samsung’s Bespoke AI Steam had to pass 71 checks in four basic areas, handling personal data (14 items), legality of data collection (28 items), information security (22 items), and company measures to protect privacy.
Previously, the certification applied mainly to home security cameras, but this year it was expanded to include smart home devices like robot vacuum cleaners that utilize cameras.
The vacuum uses Samsung’s own security system, Samsung Knox, which includes End-to-End Encryption (E2EE). It means that all the data, including images and videos the vacuum captures, is encrypted on the device itself. Even if a server is attacked or a user’s account is hacked, the data stays safe.
In addition to the PbD certification, the Bespoke AI Steam has received top security ratings. It got a “Diamond” rating in an IoT security test by UL Solutions and recently got the highest security certification from the Ministry of Science and ICT and KISA.
Samsung continues to enhance user privacy and security, with plans to introduce more IoT products featuring high protection and security certifications.
