Samsung users can now enjoy Instagram’s Night Mode for better nighttime shots
Instagram has introduced a new Night Mode feature for Android devices including Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices. This feature uses Android’s Camera Extensions API to help Instagram access advanced camera features to take great photos in low light on Samsung smartphones.
The Night Mode feature of Instagram is currently available on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy Flip 6, and Galaxy Fold 6 along with the Pixel devices. More Galaxy devices will get it in the coming days.
The Camera Extensions API provides access to device-specific features, including Bokeh, Face Retouch, High Dynamic Range (HDR), and Night Mode, to enhance the images.
Night Mode works by taking several photos at different exposures and merging them together to brighten up dark scenes without using the flash. When Instagram detects low light, it shows a moon icon next to the flash button, asking you to “Hold Still” for a few seconds while it captures the best possible shot.
This new feature is available on Samsung Galaxy devices running the latest Android updates. Google has partnered with Instagram to make sure photos are clearer and more detailed in low-light conditions. The Night Mode extension helps users take better photos at night.
With over 120 Android devices supporting this Camera Extention technology, Instagram users on Samsung phones can now enjoy better nighttime photos directly in the app. It represents over 75 million active users monthly
Moreover, Google also introduced a new indicator for Android 16, which will notify users when Night Mode is needed. This ensures that your phone automatically adjusts the settings for the best photo quality as per the light condition.
