Samsung Galaxy S24 One UI 7 Beta hit with battery drain complaints
Samsung’s One UI 7 Beta reported having battery drain issues on the Galaxy S24 series. The first Beta was considered the initial build, the issue is persistent even in the One UI 7 Beta 2 which was released on December 16.
Owners of the Galaxy S24 series have been pretty vocal about battery drain with the One UI 7 Beta 2. Beta participants report a significant decline in battery efficiency in the One UI 7 Beta 2 as compared to the One UI 6.1.
One user pointed out a significant jump in idle battery usage, from a manageable 0.4-0.5% per hour to a worrisome 1%. Another common thread is the reduction in Screen-On Time (SOT).
A user who used to enjoy 9 hours of usage now finds themselves plugging in after just 6 hours with the same usage patterns. That’s a 1.5 times increase in battery consumption, which is less than ideal for a day’s work or play.
Imagine losing 6% of your battery in just 16 minutes – yeah, that’s no typo but a user’s experience. Interestingly, not everyone noticed this right from the start; one user mentioned the first day was fine, but things deteriorated afterward.
Samsung hasn’t been sitting on their hands. The One UI Beta Team has responded with a call to action. They’re asking users to document these issues through the Samsung Members app. Here’s what they suggest:
- Open up Samsung Members.
- Head over to the ‘One UI Beta Program’ under ‘Beta Feedback’.
- If you can, attach screenshots – they’re gold for troubleshooting.
- Make sure to check “Send system log data” for a comprehensive report.
As the software is in the Beta stage, users may face certain issues and performance/efficiency concerns. It is always better to wait for an official build if you are not tech-savvy or have another phone as your daily driver.
Samsung will launch the One UI 7 on January 22 with the Galaxy S25 series. We expect the official rollout will also start at the same time, at least for flagships. A wider One UI 7 availability could only be assumed by the end of the first quarter.
