Samsung is working to evolve a new S Pen technology to slim down the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The recently released Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is slimmer than the Z Fold 6, but it lacks the S Pen input support.

The company skipped the digitizer in the Galaxy Z Fold SE. It helped the internal components to remain intact while reducing the thickness. The next plan is to achieve a thinner foldable without an S Pen compromise.

Samsung is seriously considering not including a digitizer in the Galaxy Z Fold 7. A decision will be made early next year on whether the digitizer will be included, along with a new pen input method to replace the existing solution.

The Galaxy Z Fold SE is 1.5mm thinner than the Fold 6, but the S Pen is unsupported due to a lack of digitizer. Samsung is aiming to combine both slim design and pen input in its next model.

The digitizer is a key component that enables stylus input on foldable Galaxy phones. Samsung intends to apply new technology that allows stylus input without the need for a digitizer.

The new pen input solution under consideration is said to use electrostatic induction. Apple Pencil uses active electrostatic (AES) tech, where the pen contains a device that generates electricity.

This means the pen becomes thicker due to the battery and electrical components inside, requiring charging. The display doesn’t need any additional parts, allowing the device body to remain thin.
