App Lock in high demand for One UI 7, Samsung responds
Samsung users demanding native App Lock feature in One UI 7. As privacy and security concerns grow, Galaxy users urge the addition of an App Lock. The Secure Folder is here, but it creates a clone that isn’t broadly acceptable.
One UI 7 Beta Program is live for the Galaxy S24 series, with users receiving the second Beta. Samsung is actively listening to the Members’ community to acknowledge consumer concerns and identify bugs/glitches in the software.
Samsung acknowledged a request to add the App Lock feature in One UI 7 through the community moderator. The addition of this tool will help protect personal information without creating and maintaining a Secure Folder clone.
In a recent post on the One UI Beta community forum, a Samsung user shared their frustration and request:
“It would be a great addition to have an App Lock feature available worldwide. It’s already available in some countries like China, and it would really help improve privacy and security for all users.”
According to the moderator, the team is currently evaluating whether the App Lock feature aligns with One UI 7’s design goals and overall vision. “If the idea fits with our direction for One UI 7,” the response read, “it will be considered for future updates.”
Chinese One UI is slightly different than the overseas version. Users report that the software has an App Lock feature in China. Hence, expansion of the feature to global iteration isn’t a big deal or requires development and rigorous testing.
Samsung US Community Moderator’s Response:
Hello,
Thank you for sharing your valuable suggestion on App-lock feature.
We have forwarded your feedback to the development team for review. The project manager is currently evaluating its alignment with our design concept and goals. If your suggestion aligns with our direction, we will consider applying it to the official release.
Thank you for your continued participation in the Beta program.
Best regards,
One UI Beta Team
The demand for an App Lock feature is growing, and privacy and security will remain top priorities for Samsung in the One UI 7 too. It would be nice to have an addition of the native App Lock feature with the Stable version of the One UI 7.
An app lock will help users secure access to certain apps such as Gallery and Samsung Files as well as social apps. Once enabled, you need to authenticate using a biometric (fingerprint or face) or PIN/Password – putting an extra layer of security.
