Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus

Samsung’s Galaxy S series always set new standards in the industry. The flagships introduce cutting-edge chipsets, pro-grade displays, modern design, and exceptional camera capabilities. However, the next-gen Samsung flagship smartphone—Galaxy S25—is already rumored to skip the 6 biggest features it should have.

There’s no doubt that the Galaxy S25 will be a true flagship, but Samsung is rumored to have reserved at least 6 biggest features. Let’s discuss the feature compromise in Galaxy S25 (vanilla) and how it would impact consumers.

Here are the 6 biggest features that S25 is rumored to skip:

1. Advanced display technology

  • Rumor: S25 sticking to OLED with M13 material set

Samsung Display’s most advanced OLED with M14 material set won’t be featured in the upcoming Galaxy S25 series smartphones.

Apple and Google equipped their latest flagships with M14 OLED. The new display technology offers better efficiency, vibrant colors, and higher brightness.

Samsung is shocking all by opting for older M13 OLED in its 2025 devices. This decision is considered a cost-cutting measure to manage the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

2. Outdated memory configuration

  • 128Gb base storage sounds weird in 2025

Samsung is giving a massive RAM boost to the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The base model will still have 12Gb RAM and 256Gb storage, but 512Gb and 1Tb models could have 16Gb RAM.

Meanwhile, Samsung is sticking to 12Gb RAM on the other two models. Things are worse with the vanilla S25 variant, which will have 128Gb storage on its base model.

It leaves no higher memory options for consumers who require over 200Gb of space. The base should have 256Gb and 512Gb should be an option, like the S25 Plus.

3. Primary Camera

  • Main Camera: S25 = S22

The S22 introduced a significant upgrade in terms of main camera configuration. However, the 50-megapixel sensor is set to be used in the Samsung flagship for a record fourth time in a row.

The 50MP sensor offers decent photography and videography experience. Meanwhile, Samsung should have used a modern image sensor to better compete with Apple and Chinese rivals.

Galaxy AI features will improve the camera’s capabilities and functionality. Software innovation can make things slightly better, but it is unable to fill the gap of a hardware upgrade.

4. Zoom Camera

  • 3x optical is fine but 10MP resolution isn’t

Samsung’s 3x optical solution offers exceptional photography experience. Together with a 50MP primary sensor, the Telephoto lens takes the camera capabilities to another level.

Apple has expanded the use of the Telephoto camera on the iPhone 16 Pro this year. However, Samsung is sticking to the conventional 10-megapixel sensor that supports 3x optical zoom.

On Ultra, the Telephoto remains the same as well as the Periscope camera. That model is rumored to be receiving a brand-new ultrawide sensor that will improve landscape photography.

5. Fast Charging

  • No 45W charging support like Plus, Ultra

Samsung isn’t expanding the 45W fast charging support to the vanilla Galaxy S25 model. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S25 Plus and S25 Ultra will likely support up to 45W fast charging.

The Galaxy S21 series (including Ultra) supports fast charging up to 25W. The company has boosted the speed to 45W, starting in 2022 models, but kept it limited to Plus and Ultra models.

6. Lack of UWB

  • Compromise with Ultra-wideband

Samsung is refraining from installing ultra-wideband technology on the vanilla Galaxy S25. The reason is uncertain but the handset will end up losing access to some basic flagship features.

The company is rapidly expanding the availability of digital car keys through Samsung Wallet. As the functionality solely relies on UWB (hardware), users will miss out on this feature.

What Next…

These are the rumored features that the vanilla Galaxy S25 would lack. Other aspects are quite interesting such as the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, Galaxy AI, and Gemini Nano.

The best part: Samsung is highly likely to keep the pricing the same as the Galaxy S24 series. If the price remains intact, the Galaxy S25 series is going to be a big hit in 2025!

Samsung may announce the Galaxy S25 series in late January next year. Pre-reservation should start by mid-January and the official release is expected to be kicked off in early February.
