Samsung to unveil AR Glasses at Galaxy S25 launch
Samsung is speeding up its work on the augmented and extended reality segment. A report from a credible outlet suggests that Samsung may launch a prototype of Galaxy AR Glasses at the launch event of the Galaxy S25 series next year.
According to Yonhap News, Samsung is planning to display the Galaxy AR Glasses (prototype) at the S25 launch. It sounds like a similar strategy to the Ring, which was teased with the S23 series and debuted with the Z6 series.
Apart from this, the company is expected to bolster its XR-related organization and accelerate new business efforts. It will follow the prototype unveil through the in-event display or video/image during the Unpacked event in late January.
The Vision Pro is undoubtedly an innovation marvel, but its whopping price and limited availability crushed Apple’s dreams. Therefore, Samsung jumped to Smart Glasses, which would cost less and offer ease of access and handling.
It’s reported that Samsung’s upcoming AR device may resemble regular glasses or sunglasses and weigh around 50g. The smart glasses may be capable of “AI-based payment, gesture recognition, and facial recognition.”
In addition, the Korean tech giant could reveal its XR platform. The software will be integrated into the upcoming AR Glasses. The report says that the company may launch its XR-optimized software later this month.
Since early 2023, Samsung has been working with Google and Qualcomm for the development of its XR product. During the July Unpacked, TM Roh announced that the XR platform would be introduced by the end of this year.
However, the AR Glass device is expected to be released in the third quarter of next year. After the smartphone market, Samsung is rapidly working to expand its footsteps to the next era – the extended and virtual reality segment.
