Samsung Galaxy S25 One UI 7

Samsung fans are excited about the next big software update for Galaxy devices. The One UI 8 Beta has officially launched, with Samsung confirming the program and releasing the first beta update. If you are curious about what’s available now, the key features, and which devices are supported, you’re in the right place. Let’s break it down with the latest official information.

What is the One UI 8 Beta program?

One UI 8 is Samsung’s latest software update, officially based on Android 16. The beta version is a test phase where you can try new features early, report bugs, and help Samsung refine the software before the stable release. Unlike previous expectations of minor changes, One UI 8 brings substantial improvements, including enhanced productivity tools, redesigned apps, new multitasking features, and innovative technologies like Auracast for multi-device audio streaming.

When is the One UI 8 Beta available?

The One UI 8 Beta is now live. Samsung officially launched the beta program earlier than any previous One UI version, thanks to improved collaboration with Google. The first beta update (version ZYER) is over 3GB in size and available for download. The stable version of One UI 8 is expected to launch this summer, debuting on the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, with rollout to other devices following shortly after.

On June 12, Samsung officially released the One UI 8 Beta 2 update (build ZYF3) for the Galaxy S25 series. The June update introduces bootloader version 4 to the Galaxy S25 series, the same as that found in the latest internal One UI 8 beta builds, which enables users who install the second beta to roll back to One UI 7 without issues.

Expanded regional availability

Major Expansion: Samsung has now expanded the One UI 8 Beta program to include India and Poland with the Beta 2 release. With the Beta 2 rollout, Samsung’s One UI 8 Beta is now available in Germany, India, Poland, South Korea, the UK, and the US.

Updated Regional Support:

Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Stable One UI 6 update

Samsung has started testing the new One UI 8 Watch update on the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. This gives a strong hint that the major software update based on Wear OS 6 is getting closer to launch for the Galaxy Watch.

Just recently, a reliable tipster @Alfaurk spotted the first One UI 8 Watch build for Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Classic on the testing server. The testing is underway with the build R960XXU1CYF6 on the Classic watch.

This internal testing shows that Samsung is regularly working to make One UI 8 Watch Beta available for eligible Galaxy devices. This beta update will let Galaxy Watch users try out new features ahead of the official release.

Galaxy Watch Classic One UI 8 Watch

One UI 8 Watch will be based on Wear OS 6. Google recently announced Wear OS 6, and it’s expected to roll out to supported smartwatches later this year. The update will bring a fresh design, smoother animations, and better performance.

Notably, Samsung is expected to include its improvements and changes to make One UI 8 Watch feel more in line with the look and features of Galaxy phones. It is expected to bring new features and changes, including better battery-saving options, a new user interface, an antioxidant tracker, new watch faces, and more.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 8 Classic will reportedly launch with stable One UI 8 Watch. It could be the first Watch series to get Wear OS 6. This series is expected to launch in July 2025 at the Galaxy Unpacked event.

One UI 8 Beta 3 may bring back predictive back gesture

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra

Samsung recently released the One UI 8 Beta 2 update for the Galaxy S25 series. This beta update expanded the Beta Program to more countries, including India and Poland. However, a useful feature, Predictive Back Gesture, has reportedly been removed with the One UI 8 Beta 2, but the company might bring it back in the next beta update, Beta 3.

The predictive back gesture (Back Swipe Preview)shows a preview of the previous screen when you swipe from the edge to go back. This makes it easier to navigate the phone. In the Beta 2 update (build ZYF3), this feature is no longer available.

But there’s some good news. Samsung is now internally testing a new One UI 8 build, ZYF5, for the Galaxy S25 series. A well-known tipster, @Gerwin Van Giessen, has spotted the Back Swipe Preview feature in it. This means that the One UI 8 Beta 3 update could bring back the Predictive Back Gesture.

In the new version, this option is found under the Labs section inside Advanced features. Labs is where Samsung lets users try experimental features. The Back Swipe Preview setting now appears below the option for Dark Mode apps. When turned on, it shows a preview of the screen you’ll go back to when you start swiping from the edge.

Samsung Predictive back Gesture Beta 3

Notably, in One UI 7, the Back Swipe Preview feature was only available in Google apps. It did not work in Samsung’s system apps or third-party apps. However, previous reports suggest that Samsung might extend support for this helpful feature to more apps in the future.

After its removal in Beta 2, Samsung might bring it back in the Beta 3 update. With the return of the feature, it is expected that Samsung will release an enhanced version of this feature with broader app support in the stable release.

Currently, we can just take this information with a pinch of salt as Samsung hasn’t confirmed it officially. For now, we’ll have to wait for the next update or an official announcement from Samsung.

Samsung may soon allow users to view live captions during calls

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra One UI 7 Home Screen

Samsung is all set to launch stable One UI 8 next month with their new Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 phones. Ahead of that, the One UI Beta Program lets you enjoy new features. Now, new information suggests that One UI 8 will add a new helpful feature, Call Captions, to Galaxy devices.

So, what is the Call Captions feature? It’s an accessibility tool that turns the words spoken during a phone call into text on your screen in real time. This means if you have trouble hearing or if you’re in a noisy place, you can still follow what’s being said by reading the captions. Quite useful, right?

A reliable tipster @tarunvats33 spotted the Call Captions in a test version of One UI 8 – the ZYF5 build. Although it’s still in early stages and not perfect yet, it already works well enough to get a good idea of how useful it can be.

Right now, the feature supports English (India) only, and other languages like Dutch aren’t available yet. The language selection option is locked for now, but Samsung will likely add more languages and improve the feature before the final release.

Samsung One UI 8 Call Captions

Notably, the feature reminds users to let the person on the other end of the call know that the conversation is being captioned. This is important for privacy reasons.

The upcoming Call Captions is a promising new tool that could make phone calls easier and more accessible for many people. We expect Samsung to share more details soon as they get closer to the official One UI 8 launch.
