Samsung Galaxy device setup no longer asks users to enroll fingerprint

Published

on

Samsung seemingly removed fingerprint enrollment from Galaxy phones’ initial setup. The recently released Galaxy Z Fold 6 doesn’t ask users to enroll their fingerprint. Other procedures remain unchanged, indicating a possible bug, which is preventing biometric setup.

At the Unpacked event, Samsung officially launched the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6. These smartphones come with Android 14-based One UI 6.1.1 software pre-installed. It’s an upgraded version of Samsung’s custom One UI skin based on the Android 14 OS.

Biometrics offers quick and secure authentication functionality on smartphones. Samsung’s Face Unlock isn’t quite reliable but fingerprint authentication is worth praising. It works as a bridge between your PIN/Password and your unlocked smartphone.

Whether it’s a bug in One UI 6.1.1 or international removal, Samsung should clear the clouds of uncertainties. Galaxy users can still add fingerprints from device settings. If the procedure can be done in the initial setup, why it shouldn’t be there as always?

When setting up the Galaxy Z Fold 6, the One UI 6.1.1’s initial setup requires account sign-in, network setup, and security settings. Unlike the previous Samsung Galaxy first-time setup process, it no longer includes setup for the fingerprint sensor.

Samsung is expected to expand the new One UI version to older foldable phones next month. If the bug doesn’t get fixed with incremental updates, One UI 6.1.1 release for older devices will confirm whether the lack of fingerprint during setup is intentional or caused by a bug.

The new Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 lack under-display fingerprint technology. Rather, the devices double the side key as a fingerprint authentication key. It has been reported that Chinese firm Goodix supplied fingerprint scanner solutions to Samsung for its new foldables.

Most of the time, James tries to learn about new technologies and gadgets but he also sneaks a bit of free time to nearby rivers and nature.
