Samsung’s hidden Car Crash Detect sensor found in Galaxy S24, Z Fold 5
Our friends over at AndroidPolice (via MishaalRahman) spotted Samsung’s hidden Car Crash Detect sensor inside the Galaxy S24 series and Galaxy Z Fold 5. Available in Google Pixel and Apple iPhone models, Car Crash Detection is a truly life-saving feature in the industry.
Android phones bring accelerometer and gyroscope sensors to offer features like auto-rotate and earthquake alerts. However, the device can also detect if it’s in a car crash by analyzing sensor data from its motion sensor, GPS, and microphone.

While the solid deployment of the car crash detection feature isn’t too easy, many Android vendors skip bringing it to their devices. Meanwhile, Samsung is expected to enable this functionality on the Galaxy S24 series and Z Fold 5 smartphones.
As the Car Crash detection feature is not available in any Samsung device right now, the Galaxy S24 and Z Fold 5 boast a “Car Crash Detect Wakeup” sensor. Besides, AP also discovered a hidden system app in One UI 6.1 called “MoccaMobile” that has code for starting/stopping car crash sensor.
It’s expected that Samsung is internally preparing to bring this life-saving feature to reality. A future software update to Galaxy S24 and Z Fold 5 would enable the functionality. However, there’s no specific timeline for when it will be released and what will be the deployment scale.
