Samsung Electronics started 2025 strong, with Galaxy S25 sales and premium chips driving record revenue in Q1. Yet, chip market hurdles and global trade concerns keep the company cautious about what lies ahead.

The company’s revenue reached KRW 79.14 trillion ($55.4 billion). Operating profit climbed to KRW 6.7 trillion, and net profit reached KRW 8.03 trillion, beating forecasts. Smartphones and R&D investments were key growth engines.

Key highlights

Samsung posted $55.4 billion in consolidated revenue, an all-time quarterly high, on the back of strong sales of flagship Galaxy S25 smartphones and high-value-added products.

Operating profit increased to KRW 6.7 trillion despite headwinds for the DS Division, which experienced a decrease in quarterly revenue.

MX and Networks Business

The Mobile eXperience (MX) and Networks businesses generated KRW 37 trillion in revenue and KRW 4.3 trillion in operating profit. The Galaxy S25, packed with Galaxy AI, delivered solid double-digit profits, helped by cost savings.

DS Division (Chips)

The Device Solutions (DS) Division, focused on chips, earned KRW 25.1 trillion in revenue and KRW 1.1 trillion in operating profit. Server DRAM and NAND sales grew, but HBM sales slipped due to export rules and HBM3E anticipation.

Samsung

Samsung’s Q1 2025 shows its strength in phones and chips, but chip market issues and global uncertainties call for caution. With big R&D bets and AI-driven products, Samsung’s ready to grow if the outlook clears.

Galaxy S26 might miss 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 built by Samsung itself

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra

The Galaxy Z Flip8 and Fold8 may exclusively use the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip, and Samsung apparently planning to ink a striking deal with Qualcomm to produce the “for Galaxy” chipset on its 2nm Foundry line.

According to SEDaily (via Jukanlosreve),  Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 for Galaxy, to be used in the Galaxy Z Flip8 and Fold8, may be produced at Samsung Foundry’s 2nm line. If it happens, Qualcomm would mark a return to Samsung after a 3-year TSMC exclusivity.

Samsung is expected to begin mass production at its 2nm process line later this year. Qualcomm is already delivering a tweaked variant “for Galaxy” to Samsung, and the manufacturing resort may also be switched this year for the next lineup.

Design work is expected to wrap up in Q2 this year, with mass production preparations starting thereafter, aiming for wafer input in Q1 next year.

Galaxy S26 might miss 2nm Samsung chip

As Samsung plans 2nm Snapdragon for H2 2026 devices, the Galaxy S26 series may end up using the 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 manufactured by TSMC. It will be a subtle upgrade over the Snapdragon 8 Elite with the same 3nm process.

Standard Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is highly likely to be produced by TSMC using its 3nm process. If Samsung manages to secure the orders from Qualcomm, the next-gen Galaxy foldables may beat Apple and Android OEMs with a 2nm chip.

Samsung Galaxy AI KidZania

Samsung Galaxy S25 series is powering the AI KidZania zones. The company has introduced a revamped Galaxy AI experience space for children at KidZania in Seoul and Busan in South Korea.

With the latest upgrade, Samsung has replaced the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Fold6 with the Galaxy S25 series to support the AI-powered KidZania zones in the cities of Seoul and Busan.

Notably, Samsung has tailored the new Galaxy AI features to be easily accessible for kids. Children become AI secret agents, boarding a ‘secret submarine’ to reach ‘Galaxy Island’ and rescue KidZania’s mascot, ‘Bache,’ through engaging missions.

Exploration Zone lets kids press the AI button to summon the AI Agent for hints about cave locations. Next is Secret Submarine Zone, which leverages Audio Eraser to remove unwanted noise from Bache’s distress signal recordings to uncover clues.

At KidZania zones, kids can explore Portrait Studio, Real-Time Translation, AI Eraser, and Photo Assist through exciting missions. In the ‘Rescue Zone,’ children send messages using phrases recommended by Personalized AI.

“We’re thrilled to respond to the overwhelming support for the ‘AI Secret Headquarters’ by renewing the Seoul location and launching a new one in Busan,” said Soyeon Jang, Vice President of Samsung Electronics Korea. “We’ll continue to offer innovative programs to make Galaxy AI accessible and enjoyable for customers of all ages.”

Samsung plans to refresh the KidZania ‘AI Secret Headquarters’ story and missions every six months to deliver fresh, unique Galaxy AI experiences for kids.
