Besides Samsung, SK Hynix is also pushing On-sensor AI to capture new AI-specific demands and increase its market share. Both companies are making strides in commercializing “On-sensor AI” technology for image sensors, to challenge the market leader, Japan’s Sony.

AI into ISOCELL

Samsung’s new 200MP image sensor, which could debut with Galaxy S24 Ultra, boasts an advanced zoom feature called Zoom Anyplace. This function uses AI technology for automatic object tracking during close-ups.

The company has set a long-term business goal to commercialize “Humanoid Sensors” capable of sensing and replicating human senses, with a road map to develop image sensors that can capture even the invisible by 2027.

SK hynix

At the “SK Tech Summit 2023”, SK hynix revealed its progress in developing On-sensor AI technology. This technology embeds an image sensor onto an AI chip, processing data directly at the sensor level, unlike traditional sensors that relay image information to the CPU for computation and inference.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Screen Protectors

Samsung is working on the next-gen flagship smartphones. Recently, a tipster posted a picture showcasing the alleged third-party screen protectors for the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra smartphones.

IceUniverse revealed third-party screen protectors of the Galaxy S25 series. The front appearance of the next-gen Samsung flagships will be quite amazing. The phones could feature symmetrical bezels that could go excellently thinner.

Third-party screen proctors shouldn’t be considered the final design. The exact appearance could vary from the image mentioned. Leaked CAD renders already revealed the possible display size and design dimensions of the Galaxy S25 series.

Galaxy S25 Ultra could be slightly taller and slimmer than its predecessor. The phone could also ditch the thick middle frame to enhance the look. Weight is also said to be reduced, making the Ultra easy to handle and usable for longer periods.

Samsung could announce the Galaxy S25 series in early next year. The lineup will include three models: Standard, Plus, and Ultra. All the models could come with an iPhone-inspired design, having an angular frame and rounded corners.

Galaxy S25 Ultra is also ditching the conventional angular corners. Samsung has made the corners slightly rounded, making the next Ultra almost similar to the Galaxy Note 20. S Pen slot is also included to offer the iconic stylus experience.

A recent report suggested a Dimensity chip in the base Galaxy S25. The Korean tech giant may be opting for the latest MediaTek chipset in place of Exynos. The 3nm process is facing yield issues, leading to Exynos 2500 cancellation.

Will you buy the Galaxy S25 with MediaTek Dimensity 9400?

Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus Design

Samsung switched to the flagship MediaTek chip in its latest Galaxy Tab lineup. Rumor has it that Samsung could use MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset in the upcoming Galaxy S25, which will be available in certain markets.

Exynos 2500 could not be used in the upcoming flagship phones. Samsung is reportedly facing low-yield issues with its cutting-edge 3nm process. Therefore, the in-house processor is unlikely – at least in the upcoming Galaxy S.

Snapdragon prices could skyrocket due to 3nm process costs. Samsung must freeze the pricing of its next flagships to remain competitive. Hence, we may see MediaTek Dimensity 9400 in the vanilla Galaxy S25.

Dimensity 9400 features one Arm Cortex-X925 CPU core topping out at just over 3.6GHz, three Cortex-X4s rated up to 3.6GHz, and four Cortex-A720 cores running up to 3.3GHz. The product is set to compete with Qualcomm and Apple’s latest chips.

In addition, the Dimensity 9400 is said to pack an 8th-gen machine-learning-accelerating NPU. MediaTek claims it’s as much as 80% faster at performing LLM prompt inference over the previous NPU, and is also as much as 35% more power efficient.

MediaTek has been doing a pretty notable job in the mobile chip markets. Many Chinese vendors opt for Dimensity and Helio chips for their products. If the rumor is true, Dimensity 9400 will be the first to power a flagship product from Samsung.

Samsung maintains a dual-chip strategy in its Galaxy S lineups. The Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus use Exynos and Snapdragon in different markets. However, consumers always prefer Snapdragon which offers better performance and efficiency.

The Galaxy S25 series could be launched in the first quarter of the next year. Qualcomm is set to debut the Snapdragon 8 Elite this month. We are excited for the upcoming developments as well as the future of Galaxy S flagships.
