Samsung set to manufacture 2nd gen 3nm and enhanced 4nm chips in H2 2024
Samsung has recently told investors that it’s set to begin manufacturing 2nd gen 3nm (SF3) and enhanced version of 4nm (SF4X) chips in the H2 2024. Both of the fabrication technologies are likely to improve competitive positions and enable Samsung to build new types of products.
“We will strengthen our technology competitiveness through the 2H mass production of the 2nd generation 3-nano process as well as the 4th generation 4-nano process for HPC.”

It’s worth noting that the company’s upcoming SF3 process technology is a major upgrade to its existing SF3E production node. In addition, the SF3 (3nm) is said to offer major improvements over SF4 (4nm) such as 22% more performance, 34% less power consumption and 21% reduced logic area.
The market is forecast to shift to growth thanks to a rebound in mobile demand. For mature processes, Samsung will strive to expand within applications such as HPC, automotive, consumer goods, etc., by developing specialized process technologies, including RF and eMRAM.
