Samsung Note 20 update plan

In its recent press release, Samsung showed that the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 series are eligible for Android 14. As per the company’s commitment, both flagship lineups are not eligible for major upgrade after Android 13. Well, Samsung has now fixed the technical error and removed both flagship lines.

Recently, Samsung published the same One UI 6 Camera Tips post on its Korean Newsroom. The Korean article doesn’t mention any 2020 flagships, the way the Global post lists them in the footnote. It’s now officially confirmed that the Galaxy S20 and Note 20 series won’t get Android 14.

The updated footnote reads:

  • One UI 6.0 or higher Galaxy S23 series, S22 series, S21 series, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, Z Fold 4, Z Flip 4, Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3, A54, A53, A45, A33, M54, can be used on M34, M33 devices.

In early 2022, Samsung announced that flagships starting the Galaxy S21 series will get at least four Android upgrades. The company’s revised software policy excluded the Note 20 and S20 lineups, which are unquestionably capable of running the latest OS.

At the same time, the South Korean tech giant is offering up to four major OS upgrades to affordable phones like the Galaxy A24. Consumers having Note 20 or S20 flagship are disappointed, but there is no expectation left from Samsung’s end.

Samsung announces end of software updates for Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G

Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G software updates

Samsung recently updated its software support plan for October 2024, and it has noted that the Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G will no longer receive any updates. This popular foldable smartphone has been removed from the list of eligible devices for One UI updates and security patches because it has completed its update cycle.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 was launched in 2020, initially coming with Android 10. It has since received updates, including the Android 13 update with One UI 5.1.1. After that, it is not eligible for any more major Android OS updates. Now, Samsung has also ended its software support, which means it will not receive any new security updates.

Even though the Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G will not receive further updates from Samsung, it is still a secure and functional device for everyday use. The phone operates on Android 13, which supports all major apps, including those for banking, so users can continue to perform their daily tasks without issues.

Additionally, Google Play continues to provide system updates to ensure that the phone’s key features remain up to date.

For those considering an upgrade, Samsung offers new foldable smartphones, including the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5. These newer models come with improved features and will receive software updates for a longer period.

However, if your Galaxy Z Fold 2 is still working well for you, there’s no need to replace it. The device can still serve your needs effectively, even without the latest updates.

Samsung Galaxy S25 could use MediaTek Dimensity 9400, Google tips

Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus CAD

Samsung Galaxy S25 is rumored to be powered by MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset. The company is facing yield issues with its 3nm process node. It would ultimately result in the cancellation of the Exynos 2500 processor.

Business Korea recently reported that Samsung Foundry is in crisis over yield issues in the cutting-edge 3nm process. The fabrication process hasn’t delivered results that could be approved for mass production in a commercialization state.

Recently, Google DeepMind tipped at the arrival of the flagship MediaTek Dimensity chip in Samsung phones. Mid-range and budget Galaxy phones often use MediaTek’s Helio-branded SoCs, but the Tab S10 series also brought Dimensity 9300+.

  • For example, MediaTek, one of the top chip design companies in the world, extended AlphaChip to accelerate development of their most advanced chips — like the Dimensity Flagship 5G used in Samsung mobile phones — while improving power, performance and chip area.

Samsung could be collaborating with MediaTek – in the same way as Qualcomm. The Taiwanese chipmaker may supply a Galaxy-exclusive Dimensity 9400 processor to Samsung, which could power the upcoming Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus.

Galaxy S25 Ultra and S25 Plus were previously benchmarked on Geekbench with Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. However, the base variant could ship with a Dimensity 9400 processor in certain markets, helping Samsung freeze the price despite the AI boost.

Samsung used a Snapdragon chip in Galaxy S24 Ultra internationally. The strategy for Ultra could be the same, while Dimensity could replace Exynos in several markets. It would be interesting to see whether Dimensity expands to Plus as well.
